Thanks

russian Jupiter 2/85

Pentax A* 1.8/135

Canon EF 2.0/100 (not faster than 2.0 but... I found it to be better than the Leica R 2.8/90)

Contax 1,4/85 vs. Leica 1,4/85??

They are splendid lenses. But: I'm not friend with Leica R; and contax seems to me to be easier to sell.

For me, contax win. (care: not win to leica M)

Good luck. Rino.

I don't own a SLR-lens this fast in those focallengths. So I cannot give any experiences.

But since I have a Pentax body i am lusting for these two:
"Grade: 4.6 35mm/MF Pentax SMC-A 85/1,4"
and
Zeiss 85 T* 1.4.

Photodo rates them the same, but MFT measurements does not tell the whole story, of course.

Has someone owned and compared these two lenses and could give a comparison?

Sorry for the double post.

I have another question for the zeiss-fanatics.
Is the Contax Planar the same as the modern ZF and ZK Planar?

Here is my list ....(Based on my experience only so many are no doubt missing.)

SMC Takumar 85mm f1.8
Nikkor 85mm f 1.8 (non AI)
Nikkor 105mm f2.5
SMC Takumar 105mm f2.8 (In fact all versions of this lens are good.)
Canon 85mm f 1.8 in FL mount
Nikkor 105mm f4 Micro
Nikkor 135mm f3.5 (various versions)
SMC Takumar 135mm f3.5
SMC Takumar 135mm f2.5 (second version in partcular)
Canon 135mm f 3.5 in LTM thread. (Chrome and black and chrome)
Leica Elmarit 90 f2.8 (Chrome M mount.)
Jupiter 85mm f2 in LTM (Black anodised)

it seems to me that the design of modestly specced lenses in the 85 to 135 range is reasonably simple so there are many exmaples of excellent lenses in this focal length range. I would love to own some of the more exotic variants like the fast Nikkors in this range which are said to be excellent too.

I read a post where someone describe the Contax 85:1.4 as sharp and brutal
& the Pentax as sharper and prettier
the 'brutal' is what I like with the Contax 85:1.4, it slap my face everytime I view the result

I had the Pentax and the Rollei-version of the Planar.
The latter not on dslr though...
The Pentax is better at closer distances - a portrait spacialist.
The Planar is equal at closer distances and infinity.
I liked the handling of the Pentgax much more.
- but for greater distances even the russian Jupiter 2/85 could beat it!
(on Pentax DS, distance about 40 meters)

Since I'm not a portrait specialist (and have some really good lenses for this work - even if they're not the best ones here) and my wallet cannot justify such expensive lenses I don't have them any more.

Thank you for your input on those two lenses Paul and Poilu.

Mine would be:
Nikon AF 85/1.8 (on Canon 5D)
Canon EF 85/1.8
Canon EF 135/2

Last two operated in manual override Smile

Ahh.. Canon 135/2. I haven't it but somebody tell me that is the best 135 ever made.

Someday I will have one.

Rino.

I forget one cheap and fabulous lens:

Hexanon 85/1,8. I had it some years ago, and it's very sharp, normal

contrast (realistic) and pretty glass.

If anyone has konica system, consider that lens.

Rino.
