Fairly uncommon.
Made in Japan by still unknown parties.
Pictures I have seen show similarities to equivalent lenses of the same period offered by Mamiya, Ricoh, and some others, under which brands these are much more common. One of the most common variants is branded by Sears, as they imported huge numbers of Ricoh Singlex TLS cameras under the Sears brand. Argus was doing the same thing with a very similar camera, hence this lens.
I believe they have the same formula, and maybe even interchangeable elements, with these others.
Speculation says Tomioka. More likely the maker was Cosina. _________________ I like Pentax DSLR's, Exaktas, M42 bodies of all kinds, strange and cheap Japanese lenses, and am dabbling in medium format/Speed Graphic work. |

Cosina or Tomioka in my opinion too, never mind they are pretty much equal. _________________ -------------------------------

I've had many of these, but all were branded Revuenon. Nice lens anyway, either it was Cosina or Tomioka who made it....

I also have this lens as an Auto-Revuenon.
Wonderful lens. It is its flat rear element that leads to the suspicion that it was made by Tomioka.
It has a little sibling the 1.7/55 which is also excellent

Pretty much, yes.
Maybe there are differences in coatings. _________________ I like Pentax DSLR's, Exaktas, M42 bodies of all kinds, strange and cheap Japanese lenses, and am dabbling in medium format/Speed Graphic work. |

Perhaps so if looked at from a distance. This did not stop some of us making in-depth study of them . _________________ ---------------------------------

That's a 58mm f/1.7 lens, the ones mentioned above are 55mm f/1.4. _________________ My Flickr photostream: http://www.flickr.com/photos/chantalrene/
