I haven't finished my holidays yet, but I've comeback home for a couple of days to take my son to the airport. (He's going to visit our US relatives in Louisiana for three weeks). So I've just downloaded the pics from the camera for our one week trip along France: Lyon, Annecy, Aix Les Bains, Chambery, Grenoble, Montelimar, Poet Laval, Dieulefit, Grignan, La Garde Adhemar, Avignon and back home.
Since I wanted to keep the luggage at minimum I took a risky decission: Not to take any other cam than the small DP1s with its Foveon sensor and 16.6mm lens (roughly equivalent to a 28mm lens in FF). I have to admit the 28mm focal lens is not my favourite one, I do prefer very much the 35mm (equivalent), but for the sake of the space and weight I put the DP1s in a small bag, with four 4Gig memory cards, one spare battery and the battery charger.
Not to take the NEX-7 was a hard decission, but I'm still unconfortable with it and I didn't want to have to fight against the unknown.
At the end, I'm more than satisfied with the decission: Even the DP1s is like a crazy cow in terms of ergonomy and light metering, and I miss the ability of having the histogram on screen. But otherwise is the perfect camera for traveling: sharp lens, nice clean colours and really good B&W from the RAW shots.
I'm a bit biased with this cam, so I'd appreciate your comments.

NEX-7

SEL 18-55 OSS (as a universal zoom)................................equiv. 28 - 80 mm

Zuiko 1.8/38 or Hexanon 1.4/57 (for low light)....................equiv. 57mm or 85mm
Sigma DP1s or Leica Digilux 2 (as a "compact" P'n'S)..........equiv. 28mm or 28-90 mm

i did exactly the same thing when my wife and i visited france a few weeks ago, only i brought just the x100. i loved the simplicity of the setup, not having to think about what lenses to bring, just concentrating on learning how to get the most out of what i had. i think it makes one a better photographer, certainly a more thoughtful one. i posted my holiday images here also on the AF section and would be curious about your thoughts on them.

better to use what inspire us, when I was in Turkey I almost used only the samyang 14 just because it was the last baby
and if pictures had gone wrong, what's the deal, I don't work for magazine
if Jes felled better with the DP1, then it is the right choice _________________ T* |

@Carsten,
Thanks for the comment. To me your "minimum" kit is right if you go to a photographic trip, but for leisure and occasional pictures is too big for me
I cannot afford to change lenses because my family keeps walking and I've to be quick in shooting if I want to keep them in the viewrange .

@Tony,
Thanks for your comment. The low light results are not so good in colour, but once converted to B&W they improve a lot. (Always shooting RAW is mandatory). No cropping and light PP on all the shots (just exposition and light levels). No sharpening or noise reduction.(Not necessary). I felt sometimes missing a longer lens (a 135mm would have been welcome). But at the end I was used to the restrictions and I have to tell I enjoyed a lot the experience.
Which part of France did you visit?. I'll take a look to your shots, it will be nice to see your viewpoint .

@Lena,
Thanks for your comment. It's quite enlightning to assume some restrictions on the equipment. In my case it forced me to focus on photography and not in the gear.
France is a beatiful country with excellent food and a very clean and ordered place. I miss it since I got back home

@Attila:
Not to be sorry I appreciate your sincere opinion.
Probably you are right, but I feel really uncomfortable with the NEX-7. I bought it in a impulse, a friend of mine wanted to sell his one to buy a Fuji XPRO1. I was quite happy with my NEX-5, but I fell into the temptation and I regret the decission...
It does not give me anything the NEX-5 didn't give. The viewfinder is a commodity, but I got a Hoodman viewer and it was fine for me. The sensor gives more Mpixels, but I don't need them...
On the other hand, I've taken around 750 shots with the DP1s in 8 days, 700 are okay for me. So no woes at all...

Poilu,
Thanks for commenting. Yes it was a nice city and we enjoyed a fantastic weather. Just a bit hot, but nothing to what we were not used to
For all of you, a couple of shots of a lavender field (typical in the area):
