I really want to share these because this is 1, the first time I've gotten such good focus manually at a concert and 2, the first time I've gotten decent pictures of this band (I'm friends with them so I see them a lot)

taken with my Sears 55mm f/1.4, can't remember the actual aperture used but it was most likely wide open. also, linked back to flickr for bigger versions and other shots from the show.

I like both, they are really crisp and clear, although the first one is a bit tilted, i like the expression of his face! Good work, thanks for sharing

Great work, it's incredibly difficult to get good focus in situations like this AND avoid camera shake at the same time! My Super Reflecta 55/1.4 is probably the same lens and allowed me to shot at between 1/60 - 1/200th second at f1.4 in dark conditions at ISO 1600. What ISO were you shooting with?

Very good results, i couldn't get such results with even AF lenses.

very nice. i know how hard this is to do as i have taken a fair amount of concert pictures with my old sony a100 (many on my snapixel account in 'portrait o' folder), and even though i only had AF lenses, i found AF useless and always focused manually (prefocused actually) and really couldnt shoot my a100 over iso 400. really good job!

thanks all! the first one is actually a candid, I was testing out exposure/aperture/focus. and Kevin (the drummer) is usually really shy so the expression is especially nice Very Happy

@Shrek: the first one is 1600, 1/25. the second is also 1600, but exposure was 1/125.

judging by that... the first one is actually taken with my Vivitar 28mm f/2.8. I have a hard time telling which was which, especially since the exif data is all zeros Embarassed

That sears is a nice lens - I use mine from time to time, but less since I got a planar Embarassed Embarassed
