I started to buy MF lenses about an year ago, and from the start I have planned to buy this wide-angle zoom. I can´t explain why. The range is not great, the lens is not very fast, the front ring rotates when focusing and so on. Let´s just say that I liked the idea and looks of it. Smile

Here´s some samples

1. At 25 mm f/11

100 % crop

2. At 50 mm f/11. The flare is not bad

3. At 25 mm f/5.6. Some barrel distortion

4. At 50 mm f/5.6

Thanks for posting these samples. My interest in this lens was slightly piqued when someone who normally talks sense, on another forum, said they had taken to using it instead of the cv40 / cv58 / their 24mm because, they said, it was equally good at f/4 onwards.

I didn't have any information with which to evaluate their claim, until now.

First samples for me too. I also heard that it is a good lens and these samples certainly show that to be the case. Thanks

This is a quite nice lens, original hood for this lens is HK-7.
It has a slight barrel distortion, Bjorn praised it. The only complain
from me is 1m minimum focusing distance, a bit too long.

Thank you for the comments.

@Koji: The minimum focusing distance is 60 cms, but yes, without any macro function, it´s a bit too long. The HK-7 hood is slip-on type, so I believe, that vignetting could be an issue with any screw-in hoods. Maybe I should buy a 72-77 mm step-up ring and use a generic 77mm wide-angle hood.

And I would appreciate a DOF scale. Sad

Nice samples and nice lens.

I was also looking for one of thes until I got the little brother (or sister) the Nikkor 28-50mm AIS. It is a little faster (3.5), much smaller and lighter and it takes 52mm filters (which I already had).

Anyhow I won't pass the 25-50 if I will ever see one for a reasonable price. Fortunately they seem to be quite rare (especially in Europe) and so I won't overstretch my budget.

Ha, that was my mistake/misinformation. MFD is 0.6 m for this lens.

At that era many japanese camera makers made constant aperture
zooms, Yashica ML28-50/3.5, Minolta 28-50/4?, Nikon too. The most of
then use a technique of slightly closing down their aperture at the wide
in order to make them a constant aperture.

Minolt also made 35-70/3.5 w its MFD 1m alas! Contax made 35-70/3.4
w its MFD 0.7m. (sorry Canonites I do not have any info for Canon's)

By the way the above ML 28-50 is, in my memory, the only Yashica zoom
lens made by Yashica. Its MFD is 1m, I remember now. This lens is sharp.

Those lenses are even today pretty good ones IMHO.
