This is one of several pancake lenses I bought to use on the Sony a7, due to its small size and reasonably fast max aperture.
It's not the best 50mm out there but puts up a very good fight as a pancake! I ended up selling the a7 as I couldn't get on with it, and am now selling off a whole host of lenses to free up room for a second baby nursery So for now, I'm testing and selling a lot of my lesser used lenses. Here's a few snaps with the 50/2 mounted on my Canon EOS 6D:

Lovely family shots
I have a [slightly damaged] f/2 from my film days & then a f/1.9 & now an early f/1.4
It's obviously not the best but the f/2 is a nice sharp lens imo. _________________ Flickr |

All at f2 except the one that isn't - you'll know it when you see it.

I have this lens as well. One of the first manual lenses I purchased as it had a great reputation for quality at a low price point. Used it for a while then moved on. Must get it out for a spin. My recent endeavors have revolved around quality glass that the A7ii allows at lower prices. Konica, Minolta and Canon FD. _________________ photos are moments frozen in time |

Amazing little lens.
It reminds me a bit of the XR - Rikenon (Sears) 2/50

I like Yashinons, ever since I tried my first one, a DS 50-f/2. It was very satisfying to shoot with, and yielded many good results.
f/2 are often passed over for bigger/faster glass, but they can be excellent.
[Manual Focus-G]
ML is said to be their best line, #2 and #3 look great and showcases the abilities of this lens. I like how small it is, notably smaller than my DS.

The old Yashica ML 50/2 is good, but i do prefer the 50/1.7 - better haptics, a bit bigger as the 50/2 "Pancake", and into optical terms way close 95% to the 50/1.7 C/Y Zeiss Planar, which i do also own. The 50/1.4 ML isn't as sharp as the 50/1.7 ML. -have both-

I replied to this thread back in February but since then [March] I went A7 & have continued with MF lenses. I sold my mentioned ML50/1.4 as it wasn't too sharp wide open & bought a ML50/1.7 which ended up with fungus. I got a refund on that one & told to keep the lens & a month later I picked up another 1.7 with a loose rubber grip. Bought that, stripped them both & made one good lens out of two & sold the loose grip/fungus one on _________________ Flickr |

The 50 / 1.7 is a great lens, let down by one thing. It isn't 'exceptional'. It's hard to find fault wit it, I love mine, but rarely use it; and that's only because there is little to make it stand out from all the other great lenses. Which is a great shame. _________________ LENSES & CAMERAS FOR SALE.....

Nothing special here except that the native dahlias are flowering and they fade quickly so some images are in order.
The little Yashica ML 2/50 was on the camera so that is what I used.
One of the great little compact lenses in my opinion.
