I dredged this one up from the archives (my old box), looking for
something a bit unusual from the Yashica Mat. A lot of "rejects", but
this one sort of makes the grade. At least I'll keep it until I'm tired of
fooling around with it.
This is a square crop of a square transparency, about 30% smaller
than original, but retaining the same ratio. In effect, this brings a
telephoto or close-up effect to the image. It is nice to have the large
size of a 6x6 transparency, as it enables me to crop without losing
quality to any great extent.
This certainly shows the Velvia colors, especially in Sea Stars (starfish).
I really like the diagonality of the cluster of starfish, and the green of the
sea moss in the lower right was really emphasized by Velvia. Also, the
little colony of Acorn Barnacles in the lower right show the resolving power
of the fine Yashinon lens.
One thing that gratifies me is that, in "real life", the center bright orange
starfish really GLOWED in the early light. I had real doubts about catching
that glow, but the Velvia caught it perfectly, and thus added wonderful
color contrast to the image, especially looking at that creamy orange
against the bright green rock moss.
