Which bokeh is the most bubble-like ?

There was a time when I tested some lenses in my posession, mostly projection lenses, in search for a Trioplan like bubble bokeh.
Now I share the results:

https://www.flickr.com/photos/129563138@N03/albums/72157674164337322

and present a little quiz: which one has the most bubble-like bokeh.
Please feel free to make an opinion here or in my flickr after some time I will resolve it.

1477 for the one with the cleanest bokeh and strongest contrast and resolution.

1481 for a more subtle effect.

1450 or maybe 1443 for the most defined, but I like 1489 aesthetically.

Difference aren't substantial enough for me to judge. Probably need to see them in most ideal bubble situations.

They are all bubblicious.

Thank you very much all those who bothered to give an opinion.

I have added three more lenses which I have aquired recently: 2 projection and one camera but of triplet construction they are the first in the flickr album.
Please give more feedback (I have no material for statistical analysis Wink ).

I see a lot of difference but what is the most ideal bubble situation ?

Generally one can take into considerations below presented pictures (my subjective analysis):

It is one lens but for me first one has more interesting bokeh situation but second one more pronounced (standard) one.

Also one lens but in the second: f-ck the bokeh that pear is looking at me.

I tried my best to generate bubble bokeh in a rather standardized environment trying to put aside subjective qualities but as one can observe there were several session and it is not a science.

My favourite test for bubble bokeh, which is obviously dependent on small and bright highlights, is a Holly tree in the graveyard behind our house. Holly leaves are very reflective and very curved so they create lovely small highlights when the sun hits them. In the graveyard this particular headstone is about 20 metres away from the holly tree and gives me a nice point of focus. I test all my lenses with this shot just to find out what the highlight bokeh is like, and the clear winner in my bubble bokeh lenses is ........

my cheap and cheerful Fujinon 55 / 2.2

LLoydy, they say there are also Cosinon 50/1.7 and Chinon 55/1.7 lenses.
I have added one more projection lens.

1445 and 1479 look to have the strongest, brightest rings.

I have assigned the names of lenses to the pictures (flickr).

Thanks for the photos.
The Series 1 28mm is certainly an entertaining lens!

Very nice to see these comparisons! Let me throw out a few more that have bubble-like bokeh.

Ilex Cinemat 100mm f2.9

Isco Westar 75mm f2.9

Ilex Oscillo Paragon 80mm f1.3

Wollensak Series VI 3 inch f2 (reversed)

Astro Nitor projection lens (105mm)

Dallmeyer Super Six Anastigmat 8 inch f2

Dallmeyer Kinematograph #9 (100mm ~f4)

Dallmeyer Octac (modified) (but circles are distorted)

Dallmeyer Oscillograph 75mm f2.8 (reversed) (also distorted at the edges)

Taylor Taylor & Hobson (Bell & Howell) Super Comat 25mm f1.9

P Rokkor 75mm f2.5 projection lens

Very impressive results kymarto and also very exotic lenses you've got.
For me the most promissing are:
Ilex Oscillo Paragon 80mm f1.3,
Wollensak Series VI 3 inch f2 (reversed),
Dallmeyer Kinematograph #9 (100mm ~f4),
does the reversing influence the bubblness of the bokeh?

Yes, reversing lenses yields different renderings, and it is not always similar. Some lenses are positively awful reversed, others are quite pleasing. The great thing about mirrorless is the short flage focal distance, which allows many lenses to focus at some distance reversed.

Here are shots to show the difference between the Wollensak 75mm f2 both normal and reversed. This lens is not great even with normal orientation, and I tend to stop it down about a half stop to clean up the blooming. Reversed it is even worse, and I have to stop down to about f3.5, otherwise the images are veiled and of very low contrast.

#1 normal

#2 reversed

#3 normal

#4 reversed

The Dallmeyer Oscillograph is quite tame normal (not with crazy negative field curvature like some). Reversed the circles of confusion gain a thin bright edge, and the corner shape changes from compressed to elongated. No strict comparisons here, but you can see the difference

#1 normal

#2 reversed

Another lens that behaves similarly is the Zeiss Triplet 100mm f3.5

#1 reversed

As an aside, the Wollensak Oscillo Raptar 3 inch f1.9 gets kind of crazy when reversed, with bright and elongated COC's. Not really in the running for bubble bokeh, but interesting:

#1 reversed at f1.9

#2 reversed at f4

One that I forgot is the Som Berthiot 75mm f f3.5 Tele Cinor C-mount lens

#1

One final one that might be in the running is the Ross Wide Angle Xpress 5 inch f4, which is an aerial reconnaissance lens

#1

#2

#3

I really don't understand the bubble bokeh thing, you see the effect the first time you think it's kinda cool, but soon, after you a few more exples it becomes unuinteresting then quickly becames a negative as it detracts from the image in most cases. I can only think of 2, maybe 3 bubble bokeh shots I liked to be honest.

I have a Trioplan and I barely ever take it out. I also find bubble bokeh uninteresting, for the most part, though I do favor so-called "ni-sen" (Japanese for "two line") bokeh, though I know that most consider such bokeh harsh and undesirable. That's OK. More for me ☺️
