This old busted lady has some glass for photography!

Little water dragon i encountered on a walk at the beach this arve.
Wide open Yeah!!

Aah, the good old J11... I have half a dozen copies from 1950s to 1980s vintages in M42, M39 and Kiev/Contax mounts. I also have a Contax Sonnar 4/135 that the J11 is copied from and half a dozen other CZJ Sonnar 135s.

As you might be able to tell, I really love the Sonnar 135! lol

Your lovely lizard portrait shows why - sharpness with great colours and contrast and a very smooth rendering.

I have one other J11 (Kiev mount) which is something to behold!
Adapter came for her today!
Focus is super stiff but, stay tuned!
I have the technology and the patience to bring her full, wonderous, workings to fruition!

I have a 1957 Kiev J11. Despite having a near identical Zeiss Opton Sonnar 4/135 for Contax, I kept the Russian copy because it's too good to part with. Yes, the Sonnar is a tiny wee bit better, but the J11 is still one of my very best 135s and I have over 20.

Which me brings to this: may you consider short review, description and purposes to buy/use for all your 135s? Could be a worthy read, that's damn sure Cool

So far I have Votar and Primotar of this length, also Tair 133, and sold Triotar and Sonnar (all silvers, M42 or EXA). Never had a really favourite 135mm yet, but I barely used Mr. Monet (Primotar).

That really is very good.
Well done BAB

I have too many 135mms to test and they don't all fit any one of my cameras.

The best I have:

Konica Hexanon 3.2/135
Topcon RE Auto Topcor 3.5/135
Zeiss Opton Contax Sonnar 4/135
Carl Zeiss Jena Prakticar (Sonnar) 3.5/135
Schneider Tele-Xenar 4/135

I still have a few 135s to try:

X-Fujinar 2.8/135
Komura 3.5/135 M39
Canon 3.5/135 M39
Mamiya SX 2.8/135

There's a load more that I have used and don't use but don't really want to part with, I've sold off all the ones I didn't care for.

That is truly impressive. I have recently gone on an LTM binge for my A7. Sold a number of lenses that I haven't been using and re-invested some of the sales into ordering some LTM lenses, including a Jupiter 11.

It hasn't been delivered yet but after seeing this at least I have an idea of what it should be capable of. Thank you.

My favourite 135 is a Topcor R 135/3.5, I have a non EBC Fujinon 135/2.8 that seems to be good, but haven't really used it all that much, Canon made some nice 135's
I'm also looking at getting a Konica 135/3.2

I did a rough and ready comparison of a bunch of 135s a while back ( I have just counted 17 135s but I dont think I used them all ) and the Jupiter 11 proved to be one of the best, if not the best.
I shall have a look for the old thread, but I think the pictures might have gone from it.

Random shots from my many Jupiter 11...... none of which i own anymore....
Only 'cause most times i'd be reaching out for faster lenses...

But it is a very lovely lens. Small and a joy to use...

The LTM version is cute . Does it have a longer MFD ?

PostPosted: Wed Feb 18, 2015 10:58 am    Post subject: Jupiter 11 MFD Reply with quote

My reference states the MFD for the LTM version is 2.5 meters.

PostPosted: Wed Feb 18, 2015 11:01 am    Post subject: Reply with quote

My '53 copy shows 2.5m.

PostPosted: Wed Feb 18, 2015 12:19 pm    Post subject: Reply with quote

My 58, which is the one that got the lizard shows 2.5 but the kiev 53 shows 1.5

Haven't used the kiev yet as focus is very stiff, soon to be remedied.
might give it a wirl tomorrow.

A pic of it as it is pleasing on the eye Smile

There are several version of fat Jupiter-11. I'll soon received an early KMZ Jupiter-11, which looks like a little Tair-11 (will need to clean on the body)

Another version, visible on zenitcamera, exist, with marks on the mount like on the usual fat.

I have a copy M39 mount. It is very prone to flare, probably is not multicoated, I must be very careful with the light for this reason. Everything else is very good.

Happy shots!

I just came across these pictures that I took a while back with a black fat boy Jupiter 11, both taken wide open.

.

It's a great lens

Are J11s dated by the first two digits on the serial no? Mine's KOMZ, silver, 7 digit s/n, starting N70 not N°70. 1970?

Cheers, Cool

Seeing as there appears to be multiple versions of this lens, which one (if any) stands out as the best?
I understand that this could be down to personal preference, that's fine, but if I'm going to buy one I'd like the one which most people favour.

Would a Jupiter 11 best my Zeiss 135/3.5 Sonnar? I'm only talking about IQ, I know the Sonnar mechanics are iffy Wink
