Yeah now it has become a super useful thread, or should I say useless?

Good buy !
One of my very favorite lenses. By now we all know the goods and bads of that one but I just want to share a tip. I had 2 of them sent to be fixed for small issues. Big mistake. Both of them basically fell apart when the guy opened them. There are some white plastic guides somewhere in there, and as long as the lenses were whole they worked. Once opened they fell apart and there is no way (he showed me and said it's old age...) the lenses could be put back together. I'm still looking for a bargain in AI mount. Wink

As long as this thread has bubbled to the top- I picked up one of these last month in Nikon F-Mount for my Df. Mint condition, $95.

Mine seems quite good used wide-open, I've read other reviews showing it very soft- probably variation due to age.

This tip makes this a very useful thread.
Thankyou. I know not to open up this lens. I had read that it was very complex internally, and probably would not have tried it. I've relubed Nikkor Zooms before, and cleaned oil off a sticky aperture of an early (~1000th) 43~86/3.5 picked up for $25.

This lens is among the very first few Vivitar Series 1 lenses that I collected. The performance might not be top notch but it has the design significance of a vari-focal zoom.

I've mentioned in another thread that the wide open performance is quite hazy on Sony A3000. But I haven't tried on the A7ii or A7iii. It does look fine on your df.

I also have the 135/2.3 in F-mount, the 600/8 Solid-Cat, and of course first version 70~210/3.5.
I'd like to find a decently priced 90~180 flat-field, have to make do with my Micro-Nikkor-Zoom 70~180 until then.
