My Super-Takumar has 43741 on the a/m switch so it must be model II

If the switch labels are auto/man not a/m, then yes a model II.

Gerjan lists that number also for later model I, and, early model II had a/m switch labels.

It seems my copy is version one after all. Although it has all the signs of version two the rear element is narrower like version one and the rear retaining ring also looks like v1. This is information Gerjan and Takumarology guide seem to have missed.

On top is mine, the bottom 2 are the comparison in Gerjan's book. Left 2 and right 1

My serial number.

Also found another 2xxxxx serial that seems to be the same as mine.

So at least some updated bodies seem to have the old lens elements in them. I have bought an S-M-C version to compare. It'll take a few weeks to get here. I will probably have to look for a true V1 with the older product number as well.... and maybe a V2 with wider rear element.....

I checked ebay and found some more samples. Here a comparison between a 234xxxx and 385xxxx serial. Clearly different.

Thanks for that interesting piece of information, Ian.
