I saw some free ware once where you could stack multiple shots to increase the depth of field on a macro shot but I cant find it now has anyone got any ideas on what it is called?

Never heard off that one, it seems the same like HDR images.
increasing DOF kan be done in panorama like pictures. But you stack them on top of each other.
in fact you stich pictures toghether I use canostitch for that.
Be careful not to autoexpose and have your white balance manual.
