I have no experience with the 50mm, but I have the 1.2/58. To be honest, I am not as enamored as the next guy.
The 1.2/58 offers good sharpness wide open, and great contrast compared to some other 1.2/50. I realize it is a well made lens.
However, I just do not find myself wanting to use it that much. Also, not the biggest fan of its focusing. Maybe when I get my metal focus 1.2/58 back I will prefer that one.
My yashinon 1.2/55 has worse flaring, contrast, and sharpness wide open, but I somehow much prefer it. Go figure. I also have a zuiko 1.2/55, which I find rather weak in most aspects, probably getting sold soon. pictures require heavy PP.
Jamaleous- the Minolta 1.2/58 is supposed to be up there. Don't let me discredit it. if you're looking for a well rounded and well regarded 1.2/50, I'd look into the Pentax-A 1.2/50 and the AI-S Nikkor 1.2/50.
They both offer superior 1.2 sharpness and contrast, and great bokeh, subjectively. Zuiko 1.2/50 (not 55) is supposed to be very good. Otgers will be quick to tell you, no such thing as the perfect lens ;p it always helps to look at sample images online, and see what images appeal to you.
Hope that was of some help, and not just self-indulgent nonsense. |

MC 1.2/58mm of course.
While the MC 1.2/58mm is not "better" (=sharper) than the MD 1.2/50mm, it renders quite different from e. g. an MC/MD 1.4/50mm. The MC 1.2/58mm is, in fact, a 60mm lens - resulting in a visibly smoother background compared to the 1.2 or 1.4/50mm lenses!

If you are on an APS-C sensor the 58mm will probably serve as a very nice portait lens when used wide-open due to the subject-background isolation and pimple-hiding-softness but then again, regardless of the sensor we are speaking of an 8mm difference, I guess it should be down to imagem quality and lens operation preference. _________________ Body: Fujifilm X-E1
