Well, this is a puzzle.
I have seen somewhere that maybe Zeiss produced some Exaktars like this but I can't find the reference again.
It does somewhat resemble a Pancolar .......
..........anyone got any ideas?

Yes, it's a Japanese knock-off of the Pancolar 2/50.

Not sure who made them, but If I were to guess, I'd say Tokina.

Do you own this lens?

Very close copy of the Pancolar.
The only question in my mind is that the finish isn't quite in the same class.

Some comments on this - says that Cambridge Camera of NY imported them.

A warning from Seymour's (old New York Exakta specialist) about these -

On very rare occassion, you can find this lens named as Pancolar! With less dust fibres on it than yours Rolling Eyes
Have one with the number 650339.

I appreciate the feedback

I noticed this Soligor lens has the exact same automatic exakta mount: http://www.ebay.com/itm/191868448652?_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

It appears to be a Kino made lens. I wonder if the mount was supplied by an outside manufacturer? Or perhaps these lenses were made by Kino? http://forum.mflenses.com/soligor-12-8-f28mm-21and-versions-t30866.html

Waw, sliding DOF scale. Now that is a mutant lens. I doubt Japan firm invented or copied it thus one can assume it was a sold patent. Indeed Tokina (but also SUN) made such Exakta mounts. Tokina / Vivitar went for interchangeable TX/T4 type whereas SUN made it fixed. Tokina did not made 50mm lenses as far as i know but SUN is somehow not excluded from 1.7/55mm (F1.8, F2.0) story. Coming to that we are also opening Tomioka (Yashica) / Cosina doors Smile.

There is some information here: http://photobutmore.de/exakta/japanoptik/
Beri(o)flex and Elicar and 2.8/135mm Soligor are SUN made.

Now that I have one of these lenses, I'm beginning to think it is the exact same lens as the Edixagon 2/50. From all the photos I have seen of the Edixagon, the Exaktar is constructed in the exact same way. Same build on the name rings, same retaining rings, same style of engraving, the finishes are the same, etc. The only mechanical differences are related to differences in the exakta and m42 mounts.
