First a/i aperture indexing variant with the long prong rear element protector.

Minimum close focus distance is roughly 14"-16" from the focal plane marker.
I don't recall color rendition this accurate from the slightly faster (and much cheaper) f1.8 nikkor that I preferred with film.

Motion blurred subject. Shot close to sunset.
1/80 sec, f5.6, ISO 200.

All my recent flower photo's show wilting subjects~ rain has become a bit of a rarity around here.

I really can't find much to complain about with this lens.
It is far more versatile then I thought, especially when I give it the time and care required for reasonable images.

Kern Polarimeter rescued from trash.
The 10X scale reading loupe is a good one...
I have another photo showing the specimen tube.
About 1/2 meter or 2 1/2 feet from subject.
50mm f2 nikkor at f4 with the pop-up D-200 flash. ISO 100
Getting to be a lot of junk in this tiny apartment...

50mm f2 nikkor at f5.6, 1/80 sec, ISO 200
Minimum focus stop.

One of the best 50s made. The pre-AI version was widely used by the photo press and photojournalists in the 60s. They swore by this lens and it developed a hard core following as a result.

I have 3 of them.
One is the pre-AI version, one is a (I think) "K" conversion, and the last is the lens used above.
Serial no. sequencing is a bit odd between the suspected "K" and the pre-AI.

This is the 3 screw/extended prong variant at f5.6 on full frame.
It handles the shadow details quite well in tricky light situations like this.

It can be forced to flare, if one is willing to work at it.
No filter directly towards light source, f8.
Interestingly enough, the green flare at lower left is the same color as the lens coatings

All are out of camera jpegs. No post work other than re-size for this page.

At f8 again, which this lens seems to like a lot.
My computer is really balking at re-sizing images.
Getting this one posted took a bit of a convoluted route...

I am going to have to edit photo files- the drive may be getting a bit full.

Wide open with the 50mm f2.
I like this rendering...

This is quite splendid.
Congratulations on handling the tricky light so well.

It was shot on manual.
I can't for the life of me remember which rock pile I metered off of, but it worked.
Straight out of camera large fine jpeg. I really should have shot it in raw.
I'm not sure how much the exspeed-4 sensor on the D810 corrects for.
From the bit of reading I've been doing lately, it may be quite a bit.
I still like the result though.

I had the pre-AI version and it wasn't anything special.
