A nice lens to use with good and not so good qualities

Good
very good colors, no need for photoshop
very good resolution
no CA and BLOOM in bright light

Bad for my non MC version
flare easy, need hood
soft wide open with glow and aberrations

with the sunny weather here, it is not my first choice lens as I never put hood on lenses

example of glow and aberrations (with hood)

others are more acceptable

stopped at F4 nice lens

Excellent idea, Dakoo.

I have an MC version of J-9 but I seldom use because its character does not apeal to me. However, as we all know it has such a pleasent dreamy bokeh.

A good example of the background blur at full aperture here, this is with the 84 coated version (background about 15 feet behind subject, my Dad). I find it a very hit and miss affair with this lens flare is never far away if you are not careful and focusing can be difficult to hit spot on with out a AF confirm , but when it does hit, it hits big time! Great Idea with the lens of the week, I suggest Meyer Orestegor/ petacon 135mm f2.8 Zebra next Wink

Not my favourite lens, so soft and difficult to focus...

PostPosted: Sun Apr 13, 2008 4:51 pm    Post subject: Reply with quote

Black version, uncoated.

Not a particularly bad lens, but not my favorite either. Seems to work well with extensions for close-up / macro images.

Sometimes the bokeh is good, sometimes not so good, even at the similar apertures.

Wiches Butter
Jupiter 9, old version (black)
26mm extension tube
f:2
Added "noise" to leaves for an experiment in texture

Outhouse

Jupiter 9, old version (black)
f:8
Flare and chromatic aberrations, no hood, shooting into the sun

Floral
Jupiter 9, old version (black)
f:5.6
Cropped original

Some of my favourite street shots were with this lens.

It's actually the exact same copy Orio posed pictures from in his first reply, I bought it from him Smile

All at f2.8
