I’ve posted my experience with this lens earlier in here :

http://forum.mflenses.com/distagon-1-4-35-contax-recently-acquired-t39716.html

The bokeh was very strange and I heard the click sound when I turned the lens upside down.
I brought the lens to a local Zeiss/Leica lens repair shop. It cost me about $130.
They said the grease of the lens barrel was dry, something like that.
It takes few weeks and finally my lens was back from the ‘hospital’ .. Smile

Below are some shots that I took in separate session during the last couple of weeks.

First thing first, to check the bokeh and … it was cured!!

Previous bokeh .... very bizzare Smile

Current bokeh .... back to normal

But somehow I miss that strange bokeh which interestingly could make this kind of image … thin DOF from a wide lens!! Smile

This is the current bokeh. The thin DOF is gone! I missed it … hahaha Smile

By the way I wonder what makes that thin DOF in the first place? I wonder if I could find cheaper wide lens and modify it to have a thin DOF Smile

Thanks. I live in Jakarta city by the way Smile
And the name of the shop is Indocamera, at Kemang Raya street.

But I spot some strange bokeh highlight circle, which I am about to investigate this night.

The sample of bokeh highlight that looks strange to me.
The highlight came from the shiny part of carnival costume.

it is just the signature of APO lenses, it is mark from polishing the lens Wink

So it's just a cleaning marks? I hope it's not a lens separation marks Smile

Another sharpness test.
You could see me kneeling down and my friend on the left, plus the detail of the coulds Smile

Apo? Is the 1.4/35 really Apo?

it have 1 aspheric surface that made the bokeh signature, it would be difficult to make a 1.4 APO lens

Your initial problem had to be more than just a grease problem. I suspect an element was crooked, producing the shallow depth and oblong bokeh. Perhaps the lack of lubrication forced a bind that made the lens crooked. My Cyclop had even more wild bokeh than for what it is famous. I found the rear element loose after hearing a click of the element moving as I moved the lens around. Put the rear element on only a slight slant and you'll get narrow depth and wild bokeh.

Congratulations for reviving the lens, it was worth it.
The highlights of bokeh still do not look normal, but that's just minor aspect, the main thing is that the photos look finally normal.

Thanks for sharing the info.

Which element in the picture below that make the strage DOF & bokeh. I am so curious to know.

By the way, your previous avatar is more iconic than the new one. I missed it .. Very Happy

Thanks for your advice in the previous thread about the faulty of this lens Smile

By the way, about the bokeh highlight, I just observed the sample image of this lens at slrlensreview.com :

http://slrlensreview.com/images/stories/reviews/Carl%20Zeiss%20%28Contax%29%20Distagon%20T%2035mm%20f14/bokeh-cz-distagon-35mm-f14-cy-iso400-s250-f14-35mm.jpg

if you zoom in the bokeh highlight on the left, it has the onion pattern too, don't you think so?
