There's been a bit of talk around the subject of CA recently, so I thought I'd take 20 mins or so to pitch some of my 200mm focal length lenses against the deadliest of CA animals...the clothes horse!

All shots are 100% crops from the middle of the frame.

Soligor 200/3.5 - 1st @ f3.5 2nd @ f8

Tamron 95-205/6.3 - 1st @ f6.3 2nd @ f8

Tamron Adaptall 1 200/3.5 silver - 1st @ f3.5 2nd @ f8 - this thing is like a lightsaber wide open Laughing

Tamron Adaptall 2 70-210/3.8-4 46A - 1st @ f4 2nd @ f8

Tamron SP 35-210/3.5-4.2 - 1st @ f4.2 2nd @ f8

Pentacon 200/4 preset - 1st @ f4 2nd @ f8

Carl Zeiss Vario-Sonnar 80-200/4 - 1st @ f4 2nd @ f8

Carl Zeiss Vario-Sonnar 100-300/4.5-5.6 - 1st @ f5? 2nd @ f8

Canon EF 70-300/4-5.6 IS - 1st @ f5 2nd @ f8

It's safe to say that I'm happy with the longer Vario-Sonnar Cool

Nice set Smile As you say, the tammy 95-205 certainly holds its own against the vario-sonnar.

Nice test.

I think that can be helpful a test with the CA test using all the 200 mm lenses that all the members have.

Very helpful to watch it befor buy a lens, or not?

Rino.

It's the kind of test I like, as I hate CA so much! But it doesn't bother everyone in the same way.

I guess this test could be done for any focal length, 200mm was just convenient at the time Smile

As AhamB says though, Tamron make a great lightsaber Laughing

I am just reminding that the Vario-Sonnar 100-300 has 3 x UD elements in its optical design

Other lenses in this test probably do not have those Cool

In most Popular Photography magazines, they used to recommend to go for slower lenses because they are better. I think this may have proven one of their points!

This is very helpful! Thanks. Now for me to find a similar object to test my collection. What to choose?

Nice series.

In the plane of focus most of the lenses aren't actually that bad.
