I don't know, some are definitely good indeed, but after a while the "wide open, near focus object, full blur behind and saturation cranked up" standard procedure becomes boring to me.
I don't think that these images represent the best that the old 1.4/35 Distagon can do. _________________ Orio, Administrator

Quite a few of them were actually taken with the Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 - dont know if the guy does it on purpose or if its a genuine mistake
Just click on "Canon EOS 5D" hyperlinked on the top right in the "This photo was taken on October 16, 2010 using a Canon EOS 5D" section - this is the EXIF data and you will see very clearly that the lens used was the EF 50/1.8 _________________

I don't think so. Indeed the chip communicates aperture and focal lenght, but not the "Lens" field.
See this info:
http://www.flickr.com/photos/27351229@N04/2953892845/meta/in/set-72157608349044826
Aperture and focal lenght are filled, and this could be done by the chip of an adapter, but look more below, the "Lens" field is filled with "EF50mm f/1.8", an adapter does not fill that Exif field. _________________ Orio, Administrator

No, you can't program the Lens ID and full lens type info into a chip
Besides, in some pix the bokeh is clearly not atypical of the distagon 35/1.4 _________________

One of my chipped adapters before I went to all adjustable reads 50 1.8 in info with DPP where I usually take my first look at my pictures to dump ones I don't like. I was just looking at some last week taken with the Jupiter-37A that said 50 1.8. In fact I think I have 2 of the adapters that always read for every lense 50-1.8 or 1.8-50 for those that get technical, because I don't remember which. I set all my adjustable one to identify the lense. If I have more than I lense that is , say 50-1.4 I will set one of them to read 50-1.6 and make a note to keep with the lense. _________________ Ron |

There are two different things here:

Yes, you can program the chip to say 50mm 1.4 Aperture. I have some of these chips and i use it on my C/Y Planar 50/1.4 where it correctly shows the lens as 50mm and aperture as 1.4
On the other hand, I don't think you can program the chip to say
"Lens - EF50mm f/1.8 II"
I did exactly the same thing he did to see if anybody notices - I tagged my picture taken with the EF50 1.8 II version as the Planar 50 1.4. The "lowly plastic crap" EF50 1.8 II fared decently well given the crappy picture I took
Here's the EXIF for the programmed chip identifying my Planar correctly as 50/1.4 :
http://www.flickr.com/photos/dementedjesus/5512144974/meta/
Here's the EXIF for the shot taken with the EF50mm f/1.8 II version:
http://www.flickr.com/photos/dementedjesus/5478943606/meta/
Poilu/Calvin - Can actually program the chip to say "EF50mm f/1.8 II"? This is the question. I don't doubt that you can program a chip to say 50mm 1.4 - you can see this is possible from the EXIF on my first link above _________________

Yes mine as well. The earliest zuiko OM to eos and CY to eos both show EF 50mm f1.8 .
I can't view well the images from my phone.
Would not distagon 1.4/35 images be apparent over plastic fantastic 50mm images.
If we need to resort to viewing exif data... Then the 2 lenses must both be complimented. |

Difficult to say when 90% of the photos are focused to minimum distance with one object in focus and the rest blurred. That way all lenses would look alike, except maybe for the Helios-40.
I however had the feeling that some pictures, esp. the one that I linked to:
http://www.flickr.com/photos/27351229@N04/2953892845/meta/in/set-72157608349044826
looked totally Canonlike in the bokeh.

+1 for "Difficult to say when 90% of the photos are focused to minimum distance with one object in focus and the rest blurred."
Yes, in some cases you still can tell by the signature of that lens but in most cases, it becomes difficult
+1 for "looked totally Canonlike in the bokeh." - look at the bokeh from my canon EF50 1.8 II shot here ->
