Primotars are Tessar clones, 4 glasses in 3 groups.

They should have the same strenghts and weaknesses of Tessar lenses.
It should be a good lens.

@ Steve:

Looks like it might be Exakta mount - if it is and you don't want it I'll be happy to take it as I have Exaktas. Smile

Does this lens have the interchangeable M42/Exa mount like the Orestegors?

PostPosted: Wed Nov 21, 2007 9:42 pm    Post subject: Reply with quote

NO.

Cheers Steve - PM me when you get the lens and can verify the mount. Smile

@ Peter: The rear part of the Primotar 135 is effectively an extension tube and the mount is part of that.

It's very similar in overall construction to the Trioplan.

So, these two would be the cheaper "tessar"s (the "normal" 50mm tessar) from Meyer:

http://www.praktica-users.com/lens/mlenses/mpri2.8_50.html
then.

Smile Yes it has a non usual form, but it is similar (as form not colour) with the cheaper Meyer http://www.praktica-users.com/lens/mlenses/mdom2.8_50.html and the russian http://zenit.istra.ru/archive/lenses/zenitar-2-50.html ( http://www.xs4all.nl/~tomtiger/russcam/212K/zenit212Ka.jpg ) but these two has another optical formula.
These Primotars had no successors in the later Pentacon line, as I know (not even this one http://www.praktica-users.com/lens/blenses/pp2.4_50.html , which was produced in Romania Smile ).

Primotar looks funny... I want this lens Very Happy Maybe it's not the best lens for general use - but for fun and pleasure.

It's actually a bit fiddly to focus due to the focus ring grips being on the front.

PostPosted: Thu Nov 22, 2007 7:36 pm    Post subject: Reply with quote

It depens on how smooth the focus ring is turning. With the Zenitar 2/50, which has a similas shape, I didn't have no problem, but may be because was made of plastic an not aluminium like I suppose the Meyer is made of.

Its this one: http://forum.mflenses.com/viewtopic.php?t=696&highlight=zenitar

The semi-matt finish of your Zenitar would probably aid grip Cosmin - as you suggest, the shinier alu finish of the Primotar probably won't. The focus on my Primotar copy is very smooth but still just a bit fiddly although not impossible.

I like the look of the lens though as I've never seen anything quite like it.

I can confirm that it's a 40.5mm filter ring by the way.

The UFO lens looks like it would be great for street photography, very
unobtrusive... Laughing

Should work well as self defense, point it towards the aggressor and say you are going to abduct him Razz
