The latest threads about the Biotar 2/58 made me think a little.
I own such a gem with EXA mount.

Exakta Varex by LucisPictor, on Flickr

At the Varex (which I hardly use) this lens mainly looks good, but it's a shame that it cannot show how good it is.
So I decided to find a way to make it usable on a digital body. We all know that EXA lenses do cause problems with the 5D mirror when adapted, so I need to use this lens on my APS cams.
I did not have an EXA-EOS-adapter free and in the BAY they are extremely expensive.
Well, I played around with some other free adapters and found out that this EXA Biotar fits exactly into a LeicaR-EOS-adapter, as if it was made for it.
Thus, I glued the lens (Don't hit me!) inside this adapter and closed the posssible light leaks with some EasyStick. The silver Leica adapter looks really stylish at this lens, as does the vented hood for a rangefinder Summicron:

Now, I can use the Biotar digitally and get full infinity. If I decide to use the lens on my 5D, I still can sand down the mount a bit.

Today, we went with our kids on a "walk in the woods". Some shots with the Biotar on the 300D will follow soon...

It's a pity that we won't see anymore this mint looking Biotar on that mint looking Varex.
Are you planning to sell your Varex, Carsten?

That's one of the reasons why I have taken photos of it. Wink
I think it's a shame if such lens just rests in a cabinet instead of being used.
Such a gem needs to see regular use. And although I sometimes shoot on film, more 9/10 shots I take digitally.
You know how bad my local lab is. And I do not have the time to develop my own b/w films often.
Thus I decided to transfer this Biotar into the digital world.

No, not really. It's a nice cam even with another lens attached. Wink
