Wow, Zeiss seems to be very aggressive in the market this year!
And seems to believe 101% in the manual lenses!!
They are surely going to make a big investment for what can be considered, on a certain point of view, old technology.
Maybe I am biased, but I begin to suspect that the figures of the Ebay sales of old Zeiss lenses have played a role in their decision.
Ultimately it is so good to see Zeiss strongly believe that even today, there is something more to photography than just mounting a plastic autofocus zoom and selecting the full automatic program in the camera.
Very, very well!!
I am pretty much covered on all lenses, but if the occasion will arise, I will support Zeiss by buying one of their new lenses.
Now, if they only could make a new version of the Contax 21mm.... _________________ Orio, Administrator

They are not bad prices at all, for lenses of that quality.
Dont' forget, we're speaking of NEW lenses. You can't compare with the Ebay prices.
Take the 25mm Distagon. It's 578 Euros (change of today)
I paid my used Contax copy, 380 Euros
If I knew, I would have waited to save more and buy the new lens.
Want to see REALLY high prices?
Look here, at the L series (the only Canon ones of comparable quality with Zeiss):
http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/shop/8429/SLR_Camera_Lenses_for_Canon.html
take for instance the Normal EF 50mm f/1.2L USM Autofocus Lens
$1,359.00
And we're still talking a 50mm PLASTIC LENS.

Sorted.
Anyone know for definite if Zeiss have any plans to release any more lenses in M42 in addition to the current Planar 1.4/50?
I read some reports a while back that they were, but this doesn't seem to have materialised as yet. |

Yes, that's telepathy, I just noticed it now!
And in fact BEFORE I opened this thread I started downloading the PDF because I want to see if there are differences from the Contax version, which I own.
My Contax 2/28 is one of the very best lenses that I have, and also an historical one because it's the last design made by that famous Zeiss engineer whose name escapes me now.
In spite of the slightly different number of glasses (10 instead of 9) the design of the lens seems very similar and the focusing distance (24cm) is identical, so I think the lens is a direct descendant of the Hollywood Distagon. Yay!
Now I would be really curious to try this lens on the new FullFrame Nikon digital camera!
By the way the lens will be available in the Nikon and Pentax bayonet mounts but not in the M42 mount - at least, not yet. _________________ Orio, Administrator
