A Fungus Story

This evening I've been to my parents house to look for my old slide projector. I could not find it, but I have found a metallic case where I stored photographic stuff.

So i found several lot of items. My very first camera, the Bencini, in almost pitiful conditions but still there - old packs of slides, many filters, caps, and amongst the other things, two additional wide angle lenses for videocamera.
They were stored in the most humid point of the ceiling, which is also I think probably the most humid point of the whole town, completely in the dark, closed without any air, for about 12 years.

They had the caps on, and outside the caps, a whole colony of fungus. I was hesitating to open the caps, I thought "my gawd, who knows what I may find there".... but I did, and what I could find? Glasses in good condition, only a couple fungus spots here and there, and only on the outside.

I think it's incredible, and after 12 years of this treatment, only a little superficial fungus was grown, then I think it will be impossible that with the cares I am currently taking, any fungus will seriously grown on my lenses now Smile

That's my experience as well, fungus does not always grow easily.
It needs several conditions...

So that's my hope as well! Wink
