This is the 1970ies 2nd generation Ultron f1.8 50mm by W A Tronnier.

It has been designed by W A Tronnier with concave front element and was patented 12. Oct 1971 while he was
working for Voigtlander. Zeiss bought Voigtlander and all its patents later, making it a "Zeiss Ultron" for the Zeiss
Ikon camera. The Ultron was said to have higher resolving power as any film available at that time.

amazing lens!

I was too miser to buy one when they sold for 150 Euro but I had one 'on lease' for a while, let me add these samples taken on Pentax *istDs

Andreas

Very nice ones Andreas! Yep, now see them sold for $600...

From today's lunch break walk...gloomy day, sun is gone, cold is back (5 degrees C)

I find the colors pretty amazing, this lens can do...

Wow NICE images, notwithstanding how the lens performs. Shocked

I don't think I've seen many lenses, if any, NAIL the blue color spectrum. Shocked

Also, I don't see any chromatic aberrations or purple fringing on the distant tree limbs.

Getting a bit excited about giving it a try. I am very happy that I am able to get the lens at a very good price.

Are their differences between this obviously older lens and the new versions?

Thanks Larry, I hope you'll get a nice copy!

But there is a little CA, only visible wide open; look at that snowdrop and the ones in front and behind,
you'll see some greenish (behind) and magenta (in front) hue around the contours - but this is at f1.8:

at f2.8 it is quite less already:

and gone at f4:

I see it Klaus. I assume this would pretty much go away when stopped down a little? Question

Are there optical differences between older and newer Ultrons? I even see that there are some 'modern'
Ultrons for Voigtlander, but with aspherical elements. I assume these go with recent cameras such as the Bessa
and its modern cousins?

Also, I see that there are 50/2 Ultrons. Don't know anything about those.

Good question.

The ultron 1,8, how compare it with the 2 planar 1,7 C/Y mount?

All of the three have the first element curved, I guess.

Well, that was the idea I had when I posted also some stopped down images (f1.8/f2.8/f4)... Wink

I have no first hand info about other Ultrons, except the newer Ultron f1.7/50mm ASPHERIC LTM version (COSINA made)
I bought from Orio a while ago. Pics are here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/kds315/sets/72157627831860670/
