no, it is realy safe of course, the race is organized at the only condition that the ice is sufficiently thick, I think it must be minimum 15cm deep  ....

I think it shouldn't be a problem with "only" 10 cm but that's the rule and I can understand that the peoples who organised the race don't want to take any risk .....
