lately I wrote that I am not happy with the doubler
I check it with the contax 85:1.4 and quality is only ok from 2.8
today I try it with the contax 85:2.8 and I get a surprise, great result
here are some sample on 5DII from 1 hour ago with harsh light but I wanted to share
this is a combo I will think about, to have a 170:5.6 without filing the bag can be handy
doubler can give quality, but not with every lens
-----
edit: I forget to note that all those samples are at 2.8
closing down will of course improve quality but light is not always enough
100% crop not sharpened
100% crop sharpened
100% crop

Yes, right all TC even best ones like this is designed for specific lens (lenses) not for all as you recognized clearly. _________________ -------------------------------

A question: when you say not sharpened about the crops, what do you really mean? Did you take jpegs with the camera with the sharpening setting set to minimum, or in raw with the raw converter sharpening set to zero?
I'm sorry about being like this, but I always want to know maximum info.
How is the bokeh with this combo? Especially the non-center area? |

Nice results! I thought the Mutar II was the one most people go on about though? I need to do some research _________________ Graham - Moderator

Bought a Mutar I last week. Will receive this week.
BTW on your main street (pic 3) I bought during my last visit at the end of season on the right side a ballpen from a very famous manufacturer. Was much cheaper than in Germany. And the visit before on the left side a watch - much cheaper than in Germany too. _________________ Rolf |

I don't use the mutar for any lens, I just make some test to check if I can trust it for light travel setup
check pdf for mutar http://www.zeiss.de/c12567a8003b58b9/Contents-Frame/5ed01eb620d0b1cec12570f80033cada
it say it work with all lenses but some with optical limitation _________________ T* |

I thought that you have had some experiences with that. It seems that the Mutar II is much more expensive than the M I.

Please do. I am looking to start gathering a contax collection to use on my a7rii. Totally intrigued by the images from the 35mm 1.4. I intend to sell a load of lenses to pick it up. In my research I see these are less than a hundred dollars and supposedly amongst the best of the TC's out there. _________________ photos are moments frozen in time |

Mutar I designed for both 85/1.4 and 2.8 but in analoge-times. there is a table by zeiss online named:
Possibilities of combining carl zeiss lenses with mutar converters for use with contax SLR camera system
with digital results maybe be different. the day will come when i will check this out. also have a kenko newest version from that time decades ago. _________________ mpa |

very strange you are asking. what else is optical limitations other than image-quality-limitations. try it out.
The Mutar II is not the better one but for other lenses. check the chart. Mutar II is for lenses 135mm upwards(ecept 200/3.5(Mutar I-ready)
also Mutar II for the zooms with limits for 70-210. 35-135 also has limits incl.vignetting- _________________ mpa |
