Helios 44-2 is not underestimated but so easy to get for nothing that many people don't use it. It is always nicer to take a shot with some rare lens compare to very cheap and very popular. I have 5 copies from which 3 are better then very good. This Helios is a Biotar copy and can not be given up.
My true "underestimated" are:
Petri CC focal length 45/50/55
Accura Diamatic and Supertel any focal length
Komura any focal length
Pentax SMC (A & M) 2.0/50
E. Ludwig Meritar 2.9/50
You can also get many very good lenses for nothing just because they are old, preset, T-mount.
Many Viv lenses made by Tokina _________________ Cheers, Voytek |

Hi Voytek,
Some comments -
"Accura Diamatic and Supertel any focal length "
Some of them, certainly the long focal lengths. I think the wide-angles aren't likely to be up to modern standards though. The brands were used for a wide variety of lenses from several makers. Odds are all of the long lenses, 105mm+, were at least decent.
"Komura any focal length "
From what I have - the 400mm/6.3 is great, the 200mm/3.5 is OK, the 300mm/5 is so-so, the 200mm/4.5 I am rather disappointed with. I hear good things about the 105/135's, but I haven't got any.
"E. Ludwig Meritar 2.9/50"
Interesting. I have one in Exakta and I haven't figured out how to open it yet, to adjust the focus. I should give it another try. _________________ I like Pentax DSLR's, Exaktas, M42 bodies of all kinds, strange and cheap Japanese lenses, and am dabbling in medium format/Speed Graphic work. |

Rikenon P 50/2 - Possibly my sharpest lens? Sharp at all apertures and nice bokeh too. Much sharper than XR Rikenon 50/1.4 and slightly sharper than Pentax-M 50/1.7. |

It is the reality of the market. I paid ten bucks for my copy, too little for the quality offered by this lens. _________________ Pentax K.10, K.1000; Rolleiflex

is it performing at the level of more expensive 24mm lenses? |
You would not be disapointed with the Tamron. It's a fine lens. |

there was one on ebay yesterday for 80 Euro, I guess with patience one can get it cheaper, I did not buy it.
Now I have a chance to get a Vivitar 24mm f2 also for 80 Euro, a good deal I'd think. How would the image quality between the two compare? Anybody knows?
thank you,

Leica R summicron 90/2.0
For about $400, this lens produces one of the best transition from in-focus to out-of-focus.
Tair 11-A
With 20 blades, one of the best bokeh lens out there for about $100-150. _________________ Canon 5D Mk III

The BBAR in my opinon is the better lens hands down. I own both the lenses you mention. I like both but the Tamron is nice!
I was able to purchase each for 50.00 USD or less. Keep looking. |

thank you spiralcity, realized that I should get them cheaper.
I am not surprised that the Tamron is a very good lens, but I am surprised that it is the clear winner against this Vivitar as it is a Komine made f2 24mm. _________________ my photos on flickr: https://www.flickr.com/photos/kuuan/collections |

My Viv is the 2.8 Tokina. Sorry about the mistake. |
