I just won this on Ebay, I have yet to receive it. Does anybody have any information on it? I haven't been able to find anything--as in zero information--on Google.

Is it a Piesker? In which case it's the same as 135/3.5 Votar? (I can't find any info on that lens, either!)

Tmount lens similar to many preset lenses from early 60. If aperture has more then 8 leaves, it is above average performer for sure. The same lenses are under brand name Lentar, Tele-Lentar, Accura Supertel.

Great, thanks for the info. Yeah, I figured it must be a T-mount, although the seller said Pentax 42mm, the pitch looked wrong. I have a T-mount adapter so that's fine.

I should receive the lens in the next couple days (seller is in the same city Wink so I'll report back on the aperture blade count.

Those lenses working great with Pentax DSLRs, under one condition - if adapters are good. Try to find Accura 2.5/105 in YS mount, you will be surprised how sharp they can be wide open. I think that your lens has 12+ blades even looks like cheap Focal. And this is 100% manual.

Hey Voytek, isn't this identical to the Vivitar/Hoya you got??

How did you know it was a Hoya? Mine doesn't have any inscriptions on it besides "Made in japan". 15 blades?

I couldn't believe how small this thing was either! Tiny! Unfortunately, my K20D is being serviced and I only have my Kiss F, but I don't have a T-mount to EF adapter, so I can't mount this to anything!

OK, I tried partially screwing it into the M42-EF adapter, which gave me way over infinity, but nothing at all at close ranges :p Looking forward to do some tests with this Smile

"Astranar" was a trademark of a US importer, Sterling-Howard of Yonkers, New York. They sold some Piesker lenses early on, and Japanese stuff later.

This one is interesting, because I believe it is a late-1970's lens, which is unusual for a preset. I think its the one listed on the Ihagee.com lens list as dating from 1977. It must have been a really cheap lens at the time.

It was a very cheap lens ($15) today, too Very Happy

IMHO, any lens this cute that has 15 blades is worth a buck a blade :-DDD

I have an earlier vintage 135mm/3.5 Tele-Astranar with a fluted, all-metal focusing ring. Performance even wide open is very good. Based on the 4 element / 3 group optical design claimed for it by Sterling Howard, it could be quite similar in formula to the CZJ 135mm/3.5 Sonnar.

One possible maker for this or earlier Sterling-Howard/Astranar lenses would be Kawanon - Kawakami Seiki Seisakusho Ltd. For sure they made the very common Astranar 400mm's.

Hmmm, looks very close to my Cosinon 3,5/135 T2 preset ... 12 blades diaphragm .What is the minimum focus distance ? Cosinon is 7 ft. Smile

Apart from the fact that it is T-mount, it has that typical Japanese "look" in terms of barrel styling, which can never be a German lens.

Come to think of it, I have probably been in this game for too long, so much so that I can pick out specific lenses when looking at a sales table covered in lenses at a camera show. It's due to styling differences and this also applies to lenses made outside Japan, as Japanese lenses tend to be somewhat more similar to each other; especially because many were OEM to the same manufacturers. Makers such as Piesker, Tewe, Kilfitt, Angénieux etc all have distinctive stylings and can be spotted from across the room.

I have one like that named "Prinz Galaxy" Smile It takes 46mm filters, and the hood is really, really needed as it flares badly. Sharpness is so-so, but it renders pictures with a very unique vintage look (lots of various aberrations everywhere). Use it as a special purpose lens when you need that particular look.

I have rawhead's copy of the lens now. The lens has a distance scale starting at 6ft; however, the lens barrel rotation starts before the 6ft marker. Quick test suggests that the actual minimum shooting distance starts at about 3ft.
