Here are some pictures of birds in my garden, with the Tamron SP 500 F8 mirror.

Then I took some with the Tamron SP doubler 01F, which gives a 1000mm.

You have some good models. Lens is very useable with the 2x converter.

Thank you.
Yes, it's very useable with the doubler. Smile

Well done! This lens is hard enough to handle on its own, let alone with the doubler Laughing

I was afraid of having bad results.
In fact, I was surprised by them. It was as if the doubler brings more contrast. Focusing is not easy but with a little training it's ok, thanks to the very smooth focusing ring.
The built-in hood and the tripod mount help to be quite steady by laying the barrel on left palm.

Hi Olivier
I have just received my 2x adapter...can you tell me how the adapter fits on the SP500? I have all the green dots lined up but the aperture near the camera is set at F8 and the other aperture near the lens itself is set at F16 is this correct? It is very dark looking into the viewfinder. Very Happy

I am not very familiar with using adaptall mounts so any advice would be appreciated.Usually I just leave a mount on and that is it.

MMhhh Confused
Strange. Mine is set to F8 near the lens and I don't know what you mean on the camera side as I don't have any figures on this side.

Images are better than words (and I don't know exactly the words in english... Laughing ).
Here are 3 photos of the 01F mounted on my SP500.
First one shows the green dots aligned and the aperture window of the 01F which shows F8.
Second one shows the left side. The xxx (I don't know the word Wink ) must be in the "hole". I showed it with a yellow arrow.
Third one is the right side with the same yellow arrow.
On these photos the 01F is mounted on a M42 AD2 adaptor.

About darkness in the viewfinder, I didn't really notice it, maybe because of the 5D MkII large and clear viewfinder.
I hope it helps. Very Happy

Thanks Olivier, I have the K-mount adapter and it has another set of aperture numbers on it...not sure if they have to show F8 as well as the one in your photo. You have given me a starting point to work off...thanks Very Happy

F8 could be in the near lens window.
F16 in the near camera window.

It would be quite understandable because a doubler doubles focal length and aperture.

I am not very happy with my efforts so far, long distance seems good (I am impressed with the range covered!)and middle but the close up not so good.
Long to relatively close for a 500 +doubler... Very Happy
Across the valley

Resting on the steering wheel...behind the front windscreen so that may have taken away from the image.

I found it very hard to focus or see when in fact it was focused...maybe the difference between the K200D viewfinder compared to the Canon??

It's important to be very steady.
The full frame viewfinder of the canon is very clear
and the Tamron 500 SP is a 500mm on it, a 1000 mm with the doubler.
I think it's a 750mm on the K200 and a 1500mm with the doubler.

Focusing in macro is very precise. If you're not sure of the point in focus, try to shoot 3 to 5 photos : 2 slightky in front of the point, 1 on the point, 2 slightly rear of the point.

Fun to play with. Wink

Thank you Wink

It seems that 5D MkII likes this Tammy SP 500 very much.
