I was afraid of having bad results.
In fact, I was surprised by them. It was as if the doubler brings more contrast. Focusing is not easy but with a little training it's ok, thanks to the very smooth focusing ring.
The built-in hood and the tripod mount help to be quite steady by laying the barrel on left palm.

Images are better than words (and I don't know exactly the words in english... ).
Here are 3 photos of the 01F mounted on my SP500.
First one shows the green dots aligned and the aperture window of the 01F which shows F8.
Second one shows the left side. The xxx (I don't know the word  ) must be in the "hole". I showed it with a yellow arrow.
Third one is the right side with the same yellow arrow.
On these photos the 01F is mounted on a M42 AD2 adaptor.

About darkness in the viewfinder, I didn't really notice it, maybe because of the 5D MkII large and clear viewfinder.

Resting on the steering wheel...behind the front windscreen so that may have taken away from the image.
I found it very hard to focus or see when in fact it was focused...maybe the difference between the K200D viewfinder compared to the Canon??
