A nice lens with macro capabilities. Quality far beyond the standard zooms. I didn't think it was so good...

A few samples:

I have one issue with Tamron - they made so many lenses that it's hard to know what's good and what's great. My 35- 70 / 3.5 is a good lens, but this seems to be in the great league.

Nice pictures Jesito.

Tamron SP 01A is a favourite of mine. I prefer it to Tamron's SP 52BB 90mm lens.
Btw, if buying .... one fault which seems to be quite common in the 01A is drifting off correct infinity focus
-- screws having become loose in the focus and zooming assembly.

As in several instances in this thread, the 01A can be combined with achromatic close-up lenses :

Thanks Lloydy, I also got the 35-70 and the 28-70, but this one seems to be a bit sharper.

Thanks for recalling this. I like the achromatic closeups. On my Sigma DP1s is a nice way of shortening the minimal focusing distance.

I also have this lens and like it a lot. Interestingly, I find the performance on crop sensor edges above those on full frame sensor. But that is maybe just me. As far as macro is concerned, the matching 2X multiplier also works wonderfully with this lens giving it an almost 1:1 ratio at MFD.
