OK, well, I'm pretty proud of my Tamron collection as well. So rather than start another thread showing mine, I thought I'd just piggyback it into this thread. Not the prettiest of settings. I just piled them on top of a cardboard box which was sitting next to the cabinet I keep my photo gear in.<snip>

So your SP90 is the earlier version then, I have to admit it looks better than mine.

Nice collections do you both have!
I have a somewhat more humble set: 28/2.5, 135/2.5, 70-150/3.5 (02A, 20A, 20AB), 28-80/3.5-4.2 (27A SP), 35-70/3.5-4.5 (CF 09A), 70-210/3.5-4.0 (52A SP), 80-200/3.8-4.0 (103A) and 60-300/3.8-5.4 (23A SP).
All of them purchased for little money.
Adapters for M42, MD, PK. PB, OM, Nikon, Fuji AX, Canon FD.
Most beloved and used lenses: 20A(B) and 23A.

Very nice collection Cooltouch. How does your 17 and 24 behave?

I've remembered the other lens I wanted, the SP 70-150mm f2.8 softfocus. (51A) I've only seen one or two go for sale.

Whoops! My Sp 90 is rather ghostly in that shot! I forgot to include it! Ah, too much trouble to set everything else up again just to include it.

Yes, you know, I believe that lens is actually less common than the 180/2.5 Anniversary. At least, I see a lot more of them for sale than I do the 70-150 soft focus.

As for my 24mm and 17mm, well, I've used the 24mm so far only once with a film camera, and the shots were certainly nice and sharp and clear. The rest of the time I've used it, it's been with an APS-C DSLR. It is a very sharp lens, so I've been happy with it.

Now as for the 17mm goes, I'm still in the process of shooting my first roll of film using that lens. I have it mounted on an F4, and I have my Vivitar 17mm (Canon FD mount) mounted on my Canon F-1. The idea has been to take identical photos with each camera/lens combination, so I can compare the results. I haven't tried the Tamron 17mm on my Canon crop body DSLR, but I have used it with my Sony NEX 7. In fact, I've tried doing a comparison between the Tamron and the Vivitar 17mm with my NEX, but to be honest, I really haven't been happy with the results from either lens. This caused me just now to go out in my back yard and try again. This time, the results were surprisingly different. It appears that, indeed, the 17mm Tamron (and the Vivitar) is quite a good performer on my NEX. I'll need to evaluate the pics a bit closer -- I've just been looking at the pics on my camera's screen so far. So, stay tuned.

So, let me ask you -- what do you think about your 24mm and 17mm?

I've only used the 24 with my old 20D where I found the performance to be poor. Centre was great but the corners were dreadful. The 24-48 was far more even but the centre wasn't as sharp as the prime. It soon got replaced by an OM zuiko 24mm f2.8 which was spectacularly good. I really need to try it out on film.

The 17 is great on film. It's a little odd on digital, sometimes it's great, other times it's very soggy in the corners where the image almost breaks apart. I've not got the hood or the original lens cap. Mine is the older version with the built in filters.

I guess I got lucky with my 24mm, then. On film, it responded very well and was evenly sharp, near as I can recall. I should dig out those prints again and take another look, just to be sure. Far as that goes, my 24mm Nikkor shows notable softness in the corners on print film. So if the Tamron does too, at least it'll be in good company. Cool

Your 17mm's performance is not different from mine. It seems to show some remarkable inconsistencies, and I don't really understand why. But then my 17mm Vivitar does too -- on digital, at least. I'm gonna be shooting some more test shots with those two lenses and my NEX 7 a bit later today.
