Sony! Look at Samsung!

Yes, we all know and love the NEX for sporting such a wonderfully short register distance which makes it possible to use so many different manual lenses.

But what Sony really fails at ATM is to market some new AF lenses.
The NEX system has three (3!) genuine lenses: 2.8/16, 18-55 and the hardly available (and very expensive) 18-200.

Look at Samsung, Sony!

2.4/16
2.8/20
2.8/60 Macro
1.4/85
20-50
18-55 OIS
50-200 OIS
18-200 OIS

That's eight (8!) lenses for the NX system!!

Why can they do that and you can't, Sony?

OK, the really important one, a 1.4/35 Wink is not on the offer either, but hey, it's 8 vs. 3!

C'mon, hurry up!

It doesn't matter to me, NEX is best for manual lenses

not to rain in anyones parade, but why would you say sony is best for mf lenses when: it is the only EVIL cam to not have available evf, and it does not have in body IS? those are two extremely important features for mf photpgraphy that others do have! you may prefer the sony, but objectively, without these features, it is not the best for mf use.

I mean, not compare to other cam.
Nex is best using mf lenses as I do. 16/2,8 SEl is good but not as good as my mf lenses.
So I don't need more SEL lenses, just mf lenses Smile

Tony has right, Sony is not the best , no best camera sadly.

Perhaps if Sony fit EVF on next cameras they will be best.

I am afraid SONY don't bother either MF or AF lenses, they marketed NEXT as an advanced compact camera.

i agree with luis and attila, sony does not seem committed to this format. tbh, i am also disappointed in the m4/3 crowd, panny and olly, as they came out first, had big advantage, and have really done nothing to advance it, either with af lenses, or with features to make mf easier...maybe samsung will be the one to move this forward...

or maybe fuji x100 is the way to go. great sensor, great evf, great low light, great pano function, and with only one lens, it forces you to know what youre doing as a photographer. i a m strongly considering fuji as my everyday cam, with ep2 used when i need strong telephoto, and maybe selling my 5d...it will require more thinking before i decide, but the quality of x100 pix has started the process for me.

There's a roadmap on planned lenses coming, I think the difference is Samsung don't sell conventional SLRs any more so it makes sense for them to get everything out on the market and making money but with Sony the NEX started off as dipping their toes in the water, they sell a lot of DSLRs so it's less wise for them to put all their eggs in one basket, now that they know the cameras are profitable the speed at which lenses will be released will probably increase.

These are the lenses Sony have planned for NEX so far.

I'm quite interested to see what Sigma will release for NEX mount as well

There's also this piece that came out yesterday about the NEX C3. It's for lightweights who can't be bothered with thinking anymore, but scroll down toward the bottom of the article, where it shows various (I presume) Sony lenses attached to the NEX. After all, what's to stop Sony for making adapters so its own lenses can be used on the NEX?

That is a lot of lens for a new system, shame on Panasonic/Olympus/Sony.

But judging by the activities on dpreview, the Samsung is still not as popular as the other systems. If it is not because of the incompatibility with M lens and the slightly inferior sensor, I would have jumped ship already.

Meanwhile in the m4/3 lands, the downgrade from GF1->GF2->GF3 continues, and Olympus is probably going to announce the same camera for the fifth time, this time adding a different random letter to the name (EP1,EP2,EPL1,EPL2->EPLH1?) Rolling Eyes

What I've heard is that the flange distance is fine, but the Samsung mount's neck is too narrow. In fact if you do a search on ebay on Samsung Leica M adapter, you won't be able to find any, nor did Samsung announce any M adapter with their other adapters.

I've got to chime in here, re: the X100. The X100 has a lot of minor
"engineering errors" which together add up to quite an annoyance to
anyone who wants to use all of the complex functions of the cam.

For myself, I think most people know that I try to be "minimalist" at
most for in-camera functions. With the X100, of course I tried out the
various options. But...I'm mostly back to Aperture Priority shooting with
the X100.

So, what I'm trying to say, is that the "bottom line" for me in ANY camera
is the output. Cool The other stuff is okay, but not needed for my way of
shooting. And regarding that output, the X100 puts out a basic,
wonderfully balanced image. That's what I was looking for, and the X100
gives it to me generously.

I have also found that I am really "taking off" on image angles, and just
plain image possibilities with the fixed-focus lens. I never thought I would
say this, but the single lens "has made me look around with EXCITEMENT
for the next images." Shocked

Combining the basic X100 and the basic Pentax 645 together as a team, I
feel that I'm pretty much in camera heaven. I really do. They are really
all I need. And my old Yashica Mat is sort of "gravy on the potatoes".

To learn photography, it is necessary to be forced to think and the use of one focal length will do that!

The additional quality, over all zooms, is a bonus. Cool

Then another focal length or a different lens at the same focal length. Laughing

Glad to hear the X100 is worth ......... $1200???? Embarassed I'll wait a while.....

It takes months to learn these modern menus. After that we can simplify matters to a few modes that we will reuse over and over. It is a real journey.

I just treated my Nex to a Voigtländer Ultron 35/1.7 Smile The Nex has done so well at indoor parties etc., shooting with a Fujian TV lens 35/1.7 @ ISO 1600-6400 that I thought it deserved a lens with better sides and corners Very Happy

Reality for me is that a micro 4/3rds camera has too much depth of field and not enough high ISO capability (although I understand the GH-1 is pretty good at high ISO).

Shhh...don't tell anyone, but I got it at a true bargain, about 1/2 price from a guy I've done some favors for in the past. Shocked Just don't let it get around. Very Happy
