This morning I went to a filed nearby where at this time of the year many geese and some swans gather - for whatever reason.
Unfortunately, it was bad light outside that even with high ISO settings I could not get fast enough shutter speeds to successfully shoot some flying birds with my Tamron SP 8/500.
And a faster but shorter lens would not have made any sense.

But tonight when I checked the shots, I realized that some of them have a certain something, even without being sharp and on spot.

These shots were taken with the handheld and panned Tamron SP 8/500 on my EOS 40D:





I hope it's not too much for you, but I really like them. Not as a documentary bird shot, of course, but as "pictures".

The next one was taken with my Soligor 3.5/70-220 which I finally wanted to test on my EOS 5D.



Not bad for a second level brand zoom lens. Wink

Hey, that tree really pops out! Is that a C/D Soligor?

As for the geese, talk about jammy! Those photos work really well for me, like a water painting or something...superb!

I think the geese shots are actually very good. You succeeded in reproducing the impression of the movement during the flight, this is why I think they work good. I like the tree too, simple and bold. The Tammy 500 can be tricky to use in bad light with no tripod, I know well, but nonetheless can give surprising results.

I really love the ones of the geese!

They have a dream-like quality to them. As though they are a 'memory' of flight rather than an actual captured moment in time.

It's interesting that the tendency would have initially been to reject them for being out of focus, but that despite what seemed like technical 'imperfection' they spoke to you on a different level.

I'm glad that you kept them and that you shared them. Smile

Very nice. I especially like "Flight II". A few of the geese's wings show good detail while the rest is blurred from movement. Very effective.

Art not exclude movement. A lot of masters used the movement as part of hte composition, like you beautifully did.

The geese look fantastic! it's almost soft and sharp at the same time, the feeling of movement is superb!

Hola Rino!

The 3er image was made from the car (I wasn't driving, of course) and I had lots of trial and error, so of 15 photos I did just 3 where really useful ...
