Thanks for posting pictures taken with this often overlooked lens (because of its modest F/4 aperture and limited 1:2 macro magnification), which is in fact a very nice all purpose lens. One of its characteristics that I find really attractive is the smooth bokeh (visible on your last two pictures, the cat and the stream), with no highlight rings. It is probably due to its Heliar optical formula, a rare occurrence on a lens made for 35mm photography.

Cheers!

In general, macro lenses seem to be GREAT telephoto lenses. Very nice results.

While this may be true for long macros ( 90mm or longer ), when using short macros (60mm or shorter), they often have better performance close up than in the infinity range.

I found my Yashica ML 55/2.8 macro to be soft at longer than 10M, but then my FD SSC 50/3.5 is sharp at any distance.

It all depends on what distance the lens is optimized for. If its optimized for closeup as a macro should be, its not going to perform as well at infinity. If its optimized for a middle distance, then it will perform well at both close up and infinity equally well but the closeup performance has been compromised a little. Some optical designs take into account both closeup and infinity but even those are a compromise compared to a lens designed simply to perform well close up.
