Hello everybody,

I tried today to adapt this aerial photography lens on the A7. Adaptation is not perfect at all (seriously), so I got intern reflexion. I'll try later something more serious, with infiny (it's possible, just need to reduce my "adapter").

Nevertheless, here is the lens (I find it quite beautiful) :

On photohistory.ru, it tells that it has resolution 44/8 (center/border).

Here are 2 samples :

At 5.6 (internal reflexion visible)

At 2.5, crop 33%

More samples to come next days Smile

Thnks for sharing Pierre. Smile

What is the size of this lens ?

Reply

Not big (for an aerial lens). Front lens not bigger than Helios-40's one.

I love the haze in the first picture. Great stuff!

I'm pretty sure flare is due to my crap adaptation. The intern part is very reflective.

2 more test shots :

2 strange things :
When you close diaphragm at 16, you only have a blue image.
When you look through the lens, everything is yellow.

Low contrast due to veils (internal reflection?). Easy to correct in Photoshop.

I like this kind of softness with place for détails, like in your second portrait.
Your father ?

Yes Smile

That softness and ghosting/lack of contrast is mesmerising. I wouldn't correct that. Nice samples!

I too Smile . If I want lot of contrast and sharpness, I have some lens for this. I buy lenses to have different rendering, would be pity to erase them with photoshop.

I agree, it's a quality of the lens that works for these pictures. I wouldn't PP them.

This looks very cinematic, very awesome.
Can you show the adaptation?
Cheers,

2 another photos from this evening :

Adaption is pretty simple. The main problem was short focal flange. I think it's quite similar to L39 (which is quite suprising for a 100mm lens). I made a very raw adaptation, I'll do later something more solid (but naturely reversable, I would never arm such lens).

1 = Jupiter-6 metal hood (under the big amount of scotch)
2 = Helicoide M42
3 = Flat M42 to Nex (in order to be as close to sensor as possible)
4 = I use the lid of this tea box as ground of the adapter :

I made a hole and fixed an M42 mount.

Yes, it's far to be solid, but it's enough to make photo. Just need to be carefull when you use it Smile

Btw, here is the optical diagram :

That is one McGyver adaptation! I love it Very Happy also, the other two examples are very cool, i really like the washed out look
Do you know the flange distance?
Cheers
Timo

Very nice pictures, Pierre.

More solid and stable adaptation, so some new shots Smile .
I still somehow find color rendering quite weird. No PP on color exepted the picture with the boat.

What white balance are you using?
I am not sure with the A7, but the Nikons make sometimes very strange WB if non-chipped lenses are used in Auto.

The pictures are enchanting.

I'm using AWB. Usualy works well with other lenses. But maybe the A7 has problem with very strong blue glasses.
Thanks!

I didn't notice question about flange distance. It's a bit shorter than M42. So you definitly can't reach infinity on DSLR, because need some additional space to adapt it. I was quite surprised at first, usualy long focal lens have long flange distance.

Also, for those who are interested in what type of camera it was used, here it is :

from photohistory : http://www.photohistory.ru/1207248179959706.html
Weight of the whole "box" - 25kg. It's written that was used in some Mig-21.

Last serie with this lens Smile

#2 is wide open (that's why yellowish)
The more you close aperture, the more shadows become blue

Very beautifully, Pierre! Looks like old film

I made a new adaptation (again) for this lens. This time, it's pretty solid, I can say it's the final version Smile

Ok, that's not a compact adapter, and it can be terrific for pedestrian around me, but it works Wink

So, I tested it again. It's definitely a good lens with unique caracter (according to me)

I only added a bit more contraste, colors are 100% naturals.

All wide open exepted the last one (@ 4.5)
