A difficult lens on the A7R. It has all the flaws (Color shift, Vignetting and Smearing). Close focus is a nice surprise, the marking says 0.5m, but mine focus down to around 30cm.

That's not too bad.
Does the smearing and color shift so unpleasant that you need to convert to BW?

Lens does look very sharp in center area.
Remind me a bit like pentax 110 lenses on nex.

20mm rangefinder lens on A7R - no wonder it is difficult. Wink
With that in mind the results are really not too bad.

Impressive, although it has flaws...Vignetting can be used clever and adds.

Thank you all. This is a nice little "collectors" lens, but it is also the most challenging lens to use with the A7R in my collection.

It`s pretty nice to make BW shots with, but I wouldn`t recommend this lens for landscape color. The main problem is that the areas with problems are very uneven, both smearing and color shift and it`s difficult to correct it without using lots of time...

Perhaps this would be a better lens in the future with sensor improvement. Wink

Well, you could call it the "teddybear" lens, if I looks at your drawing... Laughing

What about the posterisation in the skies ?

Maybe it's Sony's processing methodology (lossy compression of RAW files), and not the sensor, that's the problem.

Posterisation is sometimes visible (and more visible in BW) in gradients and is not lens dependent My guess is that this is a RAW Compression Algorithm problem.
There is a firmware update tomorrow with promised better IQ results, so lets see if this is one of the things that may disappear. Wink

I also hope for better sensors in the future to kill more of the color shifts and smearing for RF wide angles. They may be able to tweak it even better with software, but I doubt major improvements with today's sensor.

A7R has it flaws, but if it shines, it shines pretty good Very Happy
