Thank you. I like this lens, it's sharp and well built, although the aperture ring on mine is a little stiff and I
had to adjust it to get infinity focus. Many of the members recommended it, but I have to try my 50ish lenses
more to compare them. I think many of them are very good stopped down.

Great stuff!

I guess majotity of them are f2.8+ , very nice rendering, for sure.

I looked at my Color-Ultron 50-1.8 and HFT Rollei Planar 50-1.8 and coating seems to be same- I know it was discussed to death, but I thought that HFT coating will give it a different colour.

My prefered lens 1.8/50mm of all time. I like them both, the Voigtlaender Color Ultron and the Rollei Planar HFT. For my eyes, the Rollei and Voigtlaender lenses have a bit less contrast then the 1.7/50mm Zeiss Contax Planar, probably due to the different lens coating - which could be better for portrait.

It's funny that the red weed (Papaver rhoeas) is already blooming in your surroundings. Although I am living on the Hungarian border they are all still closed. In which region of Hungary are you living?

By the way, the lens doesn't look bad at all.

Thanks, Most at 5.6, but some of the indoor ones open more.
I remember reading a discussion about the coatings, but only remembered that the Ultron had them since I was interested in buying that lens. Seeing is believing!

Thank you. I live in Pilis which is in Pest region south of Budapest. Perhaps you are at a higher elevation.

Good results. Congratulations on your fine lens.

I've noticed excessive contrast in my lens. This may be just my appreciation. Your lens is optically identical to mine -Planar 50/1.8-.
What do you think about the contrast? What is the owners opinion of this, someone has noticed the same?

Interesting. No it's not higher here next to "Fertoe To" and "Sopron". I think it's rather the contrary, I am approximately at 150m above sea level and it's on average the warmest region of Austria. It was part of Hungary anyway not very long time ago (Komitat Sopron).

Finally I managed to find a Rollei Planar HFT 50 1.8 for a decent price in very good condition ( about 50 euros for a Singapore production).
It seems as sharp as expected , that is to say very sharp.
My sample would benefit from a focus ring lubrification to be perfect.
Any experience or advise about this task ?

Hi Renato.

The contax planar had, as we know, two formulas. The first is like the voigtlander/rollei lens, but the last sent one of the front element to the rear part, so the formula is 7 elements (3/4) like a 1,4/50-55 lenses.

And the last seems to be the better.

So, by your data, the "old" design has a Voightlaender Color Ultron cloned design, and the later had their design "borrowed" from the Contax Planar f1.4 version. At this moment, I have the Rollei HFT 1.8 and the Contax 1.4 to compare - as the 1.7 Contax I just have sold for fund the Contax 1.4. The Contax is a more contrasty lens, by my experimentations, but I like more the old rendering from the Rollei by the color palette and - as it's a less contrast results - for portraits.

The Voigtlander Color Ultron & Planar 50 1.8 for Rollei QBM or Voigtlander are the same lens. Your design is new and different to the C/Y planar.

I have a Planar C / Y 50 1.7, and Ultron Color surpasses in CA and definition. Awesome. Now need to compare it with my new Rokkor 50 1.4 MC which seems wonderful.
