I wanted to share my excellent experience with a UK based camera repairer:
http://www.mwcamerarepairs.co.uk/

Miles Whitehead
mwcamerarepairs "at" aol.com

He accept repairs for classic SLRs, and digital SLRs. Will do lens clean cleaning with oil or fungus. He also repairs medium format cameras.

His advert says "Over 30 years experience of repairs to professional and amateur camera equipment, 35mm to large format."

I quote:
"I carry out work on most camera including latest
digital equipment, there are a few occasions when
something has to go back to the agents due to main
board failure but very rarely."

He is a real gentleman to deal with. He accepts Paypal payment which is handy.

I sent two of my OM cameras to him.
1) OM-4T - full CLA
Full cost of repair including return postage = £57
Turn around time.
Received my parcel on: 11 Feb 12
Work completion date: 27 Feb 12

2) OM-1 - full CLA + battery + meter circuit conversions
Full cost of repair including return postage = £57
Turn around time (I told him there is no rush on this occasion)
Received my parcel on: 28 Mar 12
Work completion date: 25 Apr 12

On the first occasion, the camera arrived a few days later. The second one will be on its way to me from next Mon 30 Apr.

Don't just take my word for it. Also see here:

Hope it is useful to someone!

That's good to know. My K10 is still away for repair, waiting for parts. Rolling Eyes But the prices for older cameras you've had are very good.

Did you get new light seals for that price ?

Yeah, a full and complete CLA: re-lubricate parts, adjust light meter and shutter, new light seals, and anything else you ask him to do.

One thing though, I don't think he would re-paint your camera. Meaning he does not restore damaged paint work.

He will give you a receipt for his work, so no worries.

I have been hunting for years and to be honest, no one could beat his price + service. Most places quoted me more:
For my OM-4Ti
Colchester Camera - To replace all the seals, clean, check and adjustment will be £75 plus VAT and postage.
Newton Ellis - A full service usually around £85 + carriage + vat.
Sendean cameras - Cost about £95 + VAT
cameracare.ie - could coat about 130 Eur

I have a 30 year old Pentax ME Super Black with SMC-M 50mm f1.7 and some lenses that need care, I will be trying this guy out soon!

Thanks for the link!

Cool

The guy repairing my Pentax K10 is still "waiting for parts", I sent it away early April. Apparently there's a problem with parts since Ricoh took over. Mad
But I have a couple of lenses I'd like repairing, rather than me taking them apart - then not being able to put them back together again. I'll do simple lenses, but not zooms. I'll give this guy a try.
