I ordered this kit from Pete Ganzel from the Dyxxum Forums . The kit arrived today. He was very nice to ship the kit so fast ,after I mentioned to him about my coming trip -although he seemed very busy.
I have in the recent past,had my Angenieux 70-210mm F/3.5 Macro in Om mount ;converted to M42 by him ( indestructive conversion)-and he's conversion was outstanding. I still enjoy this lens today.

Any who his kit is very simple and easy to mount. His kit includes:

1. A 3 page literature sheet-to cover all bases-and very easy to understand.Also includes the Minolta AF mount (which he also sells) instructions.
2. The modified M42 mount/cap with nicely finished screw holes.
3. A screwdriver that works for the screws .
4.And a couple of hard thin clear plastic shim rings with aligned holes for the screws.



Inside of the mount and mount orientation labeled.


Mount swapped using the instructions, and old mount stored away in 1 piece. Simple as that.

I got hold of Pete through the Dyxxum Forums and PMed him. He also has a Pbase Gallery. I am sure I am not the only one who has seen his superb handi-work.

It cost me $100, and I dont think they work for the MD lenses.

Won't even work with all MC lenses, they are different… The Rokkor 58mm f/1.2's are among the few that are very easy to convert just by replacing the mount (I've done this to a couple of lenses using a drilled M42 to Alpha adapter as a new mount; 10× cheaper than Pete's though a bit more work obviously with the drilling + need to adjust infinity focus). Many other Minolta MC/MD lenses, especially MD ones, have parts of the aperture mechanism attached to the mount, very hard to convert.

You have? I have too-I actually had a friend turn a Minolta t-mount on a lathe-to specifications I found on Petes Tinkering Pages for my earlier MC Rokkor 58/1.2 (with the metal knurled focus ring). While it took my friend some tme on the lathe to get it precise-the finished lens mount works and looks very nice.
Having seen the amount of time it took my friends shop/machine , I felt more than comfortable with Pete's price, and of having it done in an M42 mount.
You are right Kimo about Not all MC lenses accomodating this mount-I am going to change the title to be more accurate.

For reference, from the time I received the Rokkor 58mm f/1.2 in the mail, it took me about 45 minutes before it was converted, and I did not have instructions and had never seen the lens before… I did not machine any parts, I just took an M42 to Minolta AF adapter (the M42 part is irrelevant, it's simply the cheapest way to obtain a pre-machined mount). So it doesn't need to take long, and no lathe is required, just a regular drill to make holes for the screws in the adapter. =)

Thats pretty good 45 mins- did you manage to compensate a workout so it reaches infinity? Very Happy

Yes, infinity focus calibration took most of that 45 minutes. By default it focuses beyond infinity when using an M42 adapter as the replacement mount (the adapter is a lot thinner than the original mount), so actually infinity focus does not strictly even need to be adjusted for the lens to be usable. Adjustment is easy to do with this lens, but takes some time to get it right. As a perfectionist I have later fine-tuned infinity focus by adding and removing shims cut from aluminium baking foil; now I can get pinpoint stars at f/1.2 without having to focus… (This level of accuracy takes a couple of hours, but this would need to be done even with the original mount as the required precision is greater than manufacturing tolerances.)

great kit!
i want to have on of those too, but the price is too high for me, though im sure it worths this much.
my question is :
how does the diaphragm work with this adapter, and can you measure the adapter , i mean thinkness etc ? that would be a big help and will save me a lot of money..
