Hello.

On local flea market I've spotted today an used zoom lens, with front plate missing. Seller has no idea about it, it has following characteristics:

LENS MADE IN JAPAN text on side.
Aperture adjustment ring is on very front end of lens.
It has that prism logo with rays going thru it on zoom adjustment ring.
It is for OM mount.

Sorry no photos.

Any ideas?

Is this some kind of lens identification proficiency test? You can read the focal length, aperture size and minimum focus distance from the markings on the body even the zoom ring is missing.

sounds like the Zenit logo, but doesn't sound like a Zenit lens

It sounds like the KMZ logo - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Krasnogorskiy_Zavod

some later lenses were made in Japan and sold as Helios, they haven't got the good reputation of the Russian lenses though.

There were no more data provided on lens, besides aperture markings, which was stuck and set to F22. Aperture had 9 blades.

The logo looked like this:

So might it be the projection lens? It had "1st generation" multi-coating, which only gives goldish reflection, as seen on early petri lenses, not the violet-green one, seen on modern ones.

I think its one of those too, though I've not heard of a zoom.

Probably not worth bothering with unless its only a quid or so.

I've posted logo drawing above, it looked totally different from russian manufacturer logos.

Nah, that's not a Soviet logo, never saw this one.

Unlikely to be a projector lens in om mount. Surely just an old generic zoom.

Since this sign is on zoom dial, I guess it is not manufacturer logo, it just shows that it is zoom ring and in which direction to rotate for what action.
