I shoot video for wedding. So I would prefer at least f 2.8. I have already shot a wedding with pentacon 135 f 2.8 and it is barely fast enough. So I guesss it's down to carl zeiss jena 180 or 200?

If you want a fast 180 then how about the Leica APO-Summicron-R 180/2.0?

It's a very nice lens.

JJ

That looks very very expensive Smile

I just did a test on the Meyer-Optik Görlitz Orestegor 200mm f/4 for M42.
Great lens, built lika a tank and awesome image quality not to mention the bokeh.

You can find this quite cheap as well

it's not f2.8 but f3.5, very light, small and a great performer even wide open and if found most likely very cheap,

preset ( = clickless aperture ) Soligor f3.5/180mm

@ f2.8 ( on Pentax *istDs ) edit: oops, @ f3.5, of course!

I found olympus zuiko and contax 180mm cost around the same. So I'm just gonna go with Carl Zeiss. How's this? http://www.ebay.com/itm/370641172097?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1438.l2649

It's a medium format, pentacon six mount.
A bit larger than regular 35mm film format, if you don't mind.
It can be used with an adapter on canon dslr.
I think there is a tilt adapter for pentacon six mount to fit canon dslr, which allows even more possibilities.

Soligor 3.5/200 is similar to that 3.5/180 too. There is a 2.8/200 Soligor, not tried that one.

There are several very nice Soligor-brand 180-200/3.5 lenses, that are sharp and have little or no CA wide open.

The best I have found is a preset T-mount 180 I think made by Nittoh/Komine

Its tough to recommend a Soligor though as there are so many similar-looking lenses of the same specifications and distinguishing among them is not easy.

There are at least three Soligor brand 200/2.8's - all are available in other brands too of course.

One T-mount preset made by Taisei/Tamron in the early 1960's. A very large and heavy thing. Wide open its got tremendous CA, though its sharp. Best as a portrait lens I think. Quite rare.

One auto lens made by Sun I think in C/D series.

And there is another, not a C/D

This one - http://forum.mflenses.com/soligor-200-2-8-t40140.html

There may be another, with a poorer finish, possibly a Sigma ?

so I'm looking at some Zeiss Jena on ebay and some of them are zebras. I have heard of zebra before on this forum, but still have no idea what they are. Can anyone explain to me what's the difference between normal zeiss and zeiss zebra?

Sometimes yes, sometimes not and matter of taste. I found from 180mm f2.8 all finish is excellent, some piece better than others , but this is not depend from finish. In 35mm I like latest better.

Hi!

While I've never used it, the Tamron 180/2.5 lens model #63B is supposed to be quite good. It's in Adaptall-II mount which means that adapting it to other mounts, including canon EF, is cheap and easy. Below is some information on it, including resolution and contrast comparisons against various Nikon, Olympus and Minolta lenses. From my reading of the charts, at f2.5 it appears about the same as the Nikkor 1802/8 ED at f2.8, and better than all others but the Olympus Zuiko 180/2. The Zuiko 180/2 is superior to all, but I suspect it's much more expensive.

Cheers!
