A very special lens very fine results
Number 4 is the pick of them for me, and better than the colour version.
What f-stop, can you remember
OH

thank you, OH, IIRC it was wide open or f/2.8 , considering the amount of CA.

great great lens rendering! nice shots. i take color hands down, but id certsinly keep b&w, though they do not appear 'black and white' on my monitor, they seem to have some toning...

thank you! yes, the BWs have small amount of sepia to them...

Wow amazing shots.
Did you use flash or reflector or it's just natural light ?

thanks a lot, yes, 100% natural light, no reflectors/flashes.

Absolutely beautiful shots and gorgeous model.

I fail to understand why so many photographers shoot B&W with these kind of great lenses. Most don't do justice to the lens or photographer.

it always bugs me too... probably there's significant amount of CA to hide in BW ?
thank you!

Great shots, really the first one is the best of all for me, but this:

shows CA in a very high level, bad surprise for me with this lens,

Cheers,

Renato, thanks a lot!
yes, the lens is not free of CA at larger apertures unfortunately.

It's not an APO lens, so what did you expect with these highly shiny crystals attached to her dress (assuming they are white/clear and not blueish)??

agree, it has no APO/ED elements, so some CA is inevitable...

But admittedly the bw ones have their own charm, a bit "retro", nice.

+1

It is puzzling because the only place that I see anything like CA is along the chain of the handbag. To my eye there is a purple/blue tinge that seems out of place with the high quality of the rest of the image.
Beautiful skin tones in 1 &3 BTW
OH

Not only in dress crystals and handbag's chain, but also in the HANDS! That was probably due the large aperture used and CA is quite visible in some OOF highlight areas..

Excellent photos and great model, BTW! Smile

thanks much Vitor!

Actually I've noted some CA in the arms and hands of the model, maybe due also to the very close angle between the lens and the light source.
Being the excellent lens it it is - even with the CA in some special cases - it's just a matter of avoiding closed angles toward light source to get rid of it.
The Summicron-R 2/50 I have shows a decrease in contrast in situations like these, but I never noted any CA in the pictures,

Cheers,

Renato

Renato, agree, the last shot was set too contrasty, hence the prominent CA ... thanks.

Beautyful images, colored for me!

This lens is good, it`s not free of abberations but wide open it is full of character.
For my taste the Summicron-R 90`s draw of sharp to unsharp transitions is absolutely beautyful.

Timo

thanks much Timo ! glad you liked the pics.

Great model, great lens, perfect light and awesome photos!

Color version for me Smile B/W conversion tones looks a tad too digital/soft/unnatural on my (good) monitor. Which software did you use for B/W conversion? I do recommend SilverEfex plugin for Lightroom/Photoshop Smile

CAs in the last shot are a little annyoing indeed (not 100% perfectly focused I suspect, these lenses all have strong CAs when not perfectly focused and wide open) but maybe could be removed partially by PP maybe.

thank you ! agree, I could've remove the CA in PP, but decided to leave it as an illustration of the lens properties...

Hi,
good job
did you shoot those wide open?

Any reviews for that lens?

Thanks a lot Alex, yes, I believe these were either WO or f/2.8
