What level of performance should I expect from a Jupiter 37A 135mm f/3.5 (non-MC) lens with serial number 9xxxxx? Is it comparable for example to a Helios 44-M 58mm f/2?

Helios 44-M 58mm f/2 are great Lenses, but you should expect a bit more then how Helios 44-M 58mm f/2 performs.
In my Ranking for 133-135mm M39-M42-Lenses ever made, Jupiter 37A 135mm f/3.5 (non-MC) takes the 7-th Place.
(The MC-Version takes the 4-th Place).

I would expect a better position for this lens from the information I was able to find, but anyway what was your complete ranking?

Sharp with smooth bokeh like most of Sonnar type 135mm.
I don't know what can be said more.

I have the MC version.
This lens is sharp enough. The bokeh is special : creamy or foggy but not lacking of contrast. I will never sell this lens.
it is prone to flare and thus can loose contrast .

I also have the MC version. Probably the best 135mm lens that I own.

What would be a fair price for a lens in good condition?

50-60 eur

Wonder how this compares to the CJZ 135/3.5. Guess I should find out some day.

Also, is it true what they say that the Jupiter 37AM is preferable to the 37A? Does the M stand for multicoated here, or something different?

Two paragraphs from the AllPhotoLenses website:

There is also a version of this lens named "MC Jupiter-37AM 3.5/135". It is an upgraded version of the older lens "MC Jupiter-37A" which was being produced earlier. "MC Jupiter-37AM 3.5/135" differs from older version with higher reliability and lower weight because of it's design improvements.

Jupiter-37 135 / 3.5 lens was recalculated from Carl Zeiss Sonnar 135mm f/3.5 according mostly to the new types of glass used. In this case, the lens reconstruction was successful.

I hope this is correct as I have a J-37A MC on order from Russia, $57 US with free shipping.

I was originally looking for a Jupiter-11 135mm f/4, but I read that the Jupiter-37A 135mm f/3.5 is actually a better (improved?) lens. How accurate is this information?

A first "test" with the Jupiter-37A 135mm at f/3.5:

The lens is not a macro, but nevertheless results seem good. What do you think?

It's a very good lens, ye can't really compare it to a 58mm lens. Thing is, there are probably 100+ 135mm. lenses which are as good (or better). Serial nos. don't matter; unless ye have a roomful of technical equipment ye can't really "rank" a lens and that's not why ye bought it...is it? Stick it on a camera body and just enjoy using it. Cool
