...but it won't be the last.

I've just received a Hanimar 135mm tele lens. I purchased for less than $12 US, and it indeed arrived as 'old' new stock, meaning that it sat around in a storefront or warehouse since being shipped from a factory or distributor.

F 3.5-22, fully manual, with a C<--->O aperture control of preset type. M42 mount, with no aperture control pin sticking out of the mount. It's clean, no haze or fungus, aperture blades are oil-free, and there are no less than 15 blades to the iris.

I know it's not much, but it's my first! Very Happy

Now, I just have to wait for the M42-to-EOS adapter to arrive from ShangHai!!

There is T2-Canon EOS/EF mount adapter Click here to see on Ebay . Has that lens a replaceable mount , fixed with three screws, usually ?
Yours might have a M42 mount.
See also http://www.warehouseexpress.com/product/default.aspx?sku=1007903 , Click here to see on Ebay
Usually the preset lenses were T/2 mount ones at least there are many of them. I've got a Soligor 135mm with two mounts available, a M42 and a K Pentax. I might use the M39 Zenit one too but never tried.

Congrats! And welcome to the wonderful world of addiction. Twisted Evil Wink

Thanks, montecarlo, but I do not need a T-mount adapter.

This lens came supplied with a T-mount to M42 applied to it.

Yes, it arrived with a T-mount collar. If I should need a T-mount
collar in the future, I have one now, thanks to this cheap lens
purchase. The cost of the lens itself is less than the cost of most
T-to-EOS adapters, and the cost of M42-to-EOS adapters are
still the least expensive out there.

I intend to concentrate on M42-mount lenses, but if a T-mount
shows up for a great price, I'll certainly have the collar to make
the adaptation.

I'm now waiting for the M42-to-EOS adapter to arrive.

There are two makes of lens with the C<-.->O marking, one of them is Komine, the other I don't know. Both were sold under many brands, Hanimex/Hanimar among them.

Post a picture of your lens and we may be able to ID the maker.

Hi Craig

Craig ,after i commented on your post i decided to click my 135mm onto the Sony and shoot a couple of flower shots to make sure i wasn't telling you lies about the quality of the lens.
As i said its a great lens around F5.6 to F8 nice and sharp with great contrast at F2.8 its a bit soft with some hazing but still ok.
F8

100% crop F8

F2.8

100% crop F2.8

F8

100%crop F2.8

F5.6

Hope yours is as sharp as this one.

Looks a good lens!

Wow!

Dave, I thank you for posting some samples of your lens.
They look to be perfectly good images, indeed!
Many thanks for providing good reason for me to feel good about my
purchase, even if I spent next to nothing on it!

I'm still waiting for the damned adapter to arrive, so I can play
with my new lens. I'm anxious to try it out, especially after seeing
your fine examples.

Finally got the M42-to-EOS adapter, but no pics from the Hanimar lens yet.

You can clearly see the wear in the towel used as my photo backdrop,
but I just wanted to show off this lens a bit. It arrived new, in original
packaging. Yes, it was untouched by human hands prior to my receiving
it, and I think it's a fine start to a passion that's likely to have me buying,
selling, and rejecting many used lenses in the future. Wink

It's only a start, but here it is:

1. Lens with adapter.

2. Lens w/adapter attached.

3. F-22. (that's only a reflection on the glass)

4. F-3.5.

Hi Craig,

Well, thats a new one on me ! I've not seen that one before.

Very distinctive design. My only comment is the maker may be the same as whoever made this Focal (K-mart) 200mm -

It is somewhat distinctive, isn't it?

I understand that the "Focal" brand was supplied by many different
Japanese makers, so who can be sure of this one?

One thing that strikes me as a bit odd, however:
The aperture blades are physically exposed behind the rear glass element.
Is this common for such lenses?
I had understood most lenses to place their aperture blades between
glass elements, in an effort to keep them clean.

This Hanimar lens is wide open between the mount and the rear element.

Both the Hanimex and the Focal lens remind me of my Spiratone 400mm f1:6.3, which also has the c<--->o appeture control.

They may be all related . . .

Indeed.
I'd like to know more, should anyone care to offer information...

The C<-.->O label is typical of a line of Komine (Nittoh Kogaku) preset lenses sold as Soligors (and Kominars). However, the style and finish of that line of Komines is much better than these Focal/Hanimex lenses. I have been assuming that the similarity is just happenstance.

I'm glad to see this lens - - I found one 'new in box' today at the camera meet - bought it for $10. Mine doesn't seem to be a T mount however. It's a nice little lens, mostly empty tube Laughing and a nice light bloom to it wide open. It cleans up nicely, and keeps getting better all the way down. Never a really high resolution lens, but fun! Doesn't focus all that close, but that's what extension tubes are for... Looks like our serial numbers are 142 away from each other.

Have you used yours more? Love the sample photos.

Wide open:

f/8:

f/22:

Had to post smaller as the 'large' size is 1024 wide

There seem to be quite a few of these that never sold. I keep coming across them on ebay and local classified listings.

I actually have not used it at all, yet. But I recently got to use my $6 Hanimex at the local museum, which is a 70-140mm zoom.

Finish looks like an Enna München lens.
