The shot of the grasshopper is very good..you just point a digital camera and take a shot and I'm struggling with a film SLR with excellent vivitar 55mm macro lens to get something decent....oh well more practice for me.

But this is just my opinion, and since this thread lives long and prospers, I am sure the admin(s) disagree Smile

Anu, I enjoyed reading your opinion and thanks much for stopping by
to share it. Wink

Michael, Eeyore_nl, and Excal, thanks for your comments. We have an
AF section, but it seems to be for DSLR/SLR and AF lenses more than
point and shoots.

If anyone is upset with my posting this here, well of course I'm so sorry. Laughing

I would think that this is indeed the most appropriate subforum here at mflenses for this topic. The Fuji F10 is a digital camera with a digital rangefinder/viewfinder, thus meets the subforum's requirements.

Dunno about the rest of the folks here, but I don't read every thread posted here at mflenses. If a thread doesn't interest me, I don't read it.

Great grasshopper shot, by the way.

Thanks, Michael, I don't read every thread, either. I'd be here all day
trying to keep up! Shocked

Fuji F10 is, AFAIK a digital camera, yes, but it has no viewfinder or other such device, not even optional one. If we qualify it as a digital RF/VF-camera, then we must also qualify all the other pocket cameras as such, and it in my opinion would be proper to change the name of this sub-forum to "Digital compact cameras" or some such.

This is, must admit, a difficult question, how to define what is a "digital RF/VF camera"? I don't like the idea of including the regular compact digitals into that group as there are a zillion other forums for them.

I suggest that we should consider splitting this forum for "digital compacts", the regular ones like F10 and whatever there may be, and another for "large sensor compacts and EVILs".

Or simply changing the name of "digital RF/VF cameras" into something that would actually incude the compact digitals.

The reason why I bitch about this is that AFAIK MFlenses forum is supposed to be about MFlenses and cameras using them, not about regular compacts - there might be a single separate group for them, but discussion of them should not be spilled into the groups that are for equipment that may actually use MF lenses.

I like having a good signal/noise-ratio, both in forums and in photograpphs Smile

Meaning no disrespect Anu, but you've made your opinions known. Now, you're actually decreasing the S/N ratio in this subforum. I suggest you express your views over in the Photographer's Cafe or the MFL Club. I'm sure Attila will give your suggestions serious consideration if well presented.

I can understand the distinction you've drawn, and really the name of the forum does not indicate that its contents should be restricted to EVILs.

This may well be deliberate on Attila's part -- I don't know. But I can tell you this -- there are a fair number of "compact" digicams that give excellent results. The Canon G-series and the new Sigma DP1s come to mind. To exclude them from any discussion simply because of their form factor is being overly exclusive in my view.

I think the bad guys have left the playground, Michael. I'm saving up my
money for a Nokia N8! Laughing

Heh. No joke! Who wants an I-phone when you've got one that'll take images like that one. Except at $550, I'd just as soon put that sort of cash toward a dedicated camera or a lens or three. Geez, I could buy a Canon G-11 and have a hundred bucks left over.
