Woah! They are sharp. Not the eye-watering sharpness that makes you have to look away after 10 seconds, but the sharpness everyone wishes their eyes had. I usually see this done through a clever use of light, but in this case it seems your set-up is producing it.

Nice.

Lovely shots. Ultron is an excellent excellent lens. I have 2. Both are Icarex BM. One in mint minus condition that came with a fold down hood and original bayonet mount lens cap. I decided it was too good to use regularly so I bought another one with some obvious scuffs but perfect glass as a user. With the icarex to EF and EF to NEX helical I can focus just a few inches from the subject. Truly a gem of the classic glass era.

The Ultron is the best MF lens I have ever bought and never leaves my bag.
Here are few examples:

Thank You Dog Friends Happy Dog Thank you!

I agrees the bokeh and the way this lens handles the light are its strong point. It works well for taking photos in available light.

Great shots and a nice lens for sure. How does it compare bokeh wise to say the roller planar HFT?

I don't have any planar HFT/color-Ultron now for comparison but I think they are different.

These are different lenses. You may check on flickr for their bokeh performance. There are many examples.

FYI the Carl Zeiss Ultron 50mm/F1.8 for the Icarex was designed by Tronnier and produced from 1968 to 1972 and
the Carl Zeiss Planar/Rollei Planar AKA Voigtlaender Color Ultron 50mm/F1.8 for the Rollei 35 AKA Voigtlaender VSL was designed by Glatzel and produced from 1974 to 1981.

Useful data. These are often treated as the same lens on the internet.
