Probably the widest Tessar made for 35mm SLR and the widest lens made by CZJ for 35mm SLR before the Flektogon:

The sharpness of this lens is better than the Piesker 40/4.5 I have tried. The vignetting on wide-open is less than the Piesker too. Although it is 'only' 10mm wider than the common 50/2.8 or 50/3.5, it perform quiet differently if used close-up. No hood is needed as the front element is deeply recessed.

a very capable lens it is!

Would be interesting to compare it to the 40mm Helioplan
which Meyer developed 1949

Thank You Dog

Yes. Better than I expected.

This lens should be different to the Helioplan, at least in the bokeh department. Here is another sample to show the bokeh. The 40mm dialyte will be my next target after the triplet and tessar I have tried.

Thanks, I was curious how the 40 performed.

There was also a Tessar 2.8cm 1:8 for the Contax RF system.

Thanks! That is for RF camera. I should modify the sentence to be more precise.

A capable lens indeed.
Between which years was the 40mm f:4.5 Tessar produced? Thanks.
