i'm definitely eyeing up a Carl Zeiss Contax G Biogon 2.8/28mm, reasonable,

its also in a shop, where i can go examine it pre-purchase, unusually in this day and age

the 45mm f2 Planar and 90mm 2.8 Sonnar dont sound bad neither, they seem fairly plentiful in good nick

small + sharp, perfect if they fly on my M43s but wait

whats the focussing mechanism .. is it on the adapter or what, im not clear, these are AF RF lenses

there also the question of wing-cuttiing-off

sure, theres some posts on here regarding Contax G lenses, not recent ones tho

Look for them in the adapter section...

P.S. There are some reports that the G28 will works well on some M4/3 camera without shaving of the plastic. Some new camera like EM-5/GX1 will need to be shaved.

Hi - it's a lovely, sharp lens BUT you will have to cut off the metal baffles that protect the rear element to be able to mount it on a m4/3 body and even then, it's a risky fit. The 45mm and 90 mm (both excellent lenses) don't share this problem and should fit comfortably with the right adapter.

Be very careful when selecting your adapter. The focusing mechanism comes in 2 forms - on cheap adapters, there is a small, knurled wheel that is rotated to change focus - avoid this type at all costs as it is very difficult to handle. The more reliable and costly type utilises a conventional focusing ring at the rear of the adapter and is much easier to use. Because of the complexity of the G-mount's securing mechanism, take care when mounting and dismounting the lens as it can easily jam.

I have used the 28 (with baffles sawn off), 35mm, 45mm and 90mm lenses successfully on 4/3 and m4/3 bodies and the quality of the glass makes it very worthwhile.

Good luck if you go for it but I'd recommend one of the other lenses as a first option simply to avoid the surgery on the mount.

hmm .. good comments and info, cheers

and yeah, i wasnt sure which lenses had the 'alteration' issue

im actually more interested in the 45mm f2 than the 28mm as a first Contax G buy

just i can see an affordable 28mm in a shop .. same dealer also has the 90mm 2.8 Sonnar

which to be frank, i'd kinda like NOT to be my first Contax G lens

since i recently acquired 2 nice Nikkors ... 85mm AND 105mm

guess it wont hurt to go and have a feel tho

the 90mm has a pretty good reputation, with a major size/weight advantage over both them Nikkors

no panic, these lenses seem worth taking some time over

Well, I think you are exaggerating. I have this adapter with a small wheel. It's not ideal, and proper helicoid is certainly a lot better. However, a helicoid is better than the "conventional" focusing ring of expensive adapters too. In my opinion the small wheel adapter is perfectly usable, putting it on is actually quite easy once you understand the principle that the "screwdriver" on the wheel needs to get into the slot on the lens.

You don't need to trim the protector of the 28 biogon for m4/3.
The 21mm does not fit on m4/3 - only on nex.

I was thinking of getting the Metabones for my Contax G 90 2.8, anyone recommends the Metabones or is there a better adapter?

Price is non issue. I don't want to use the AF, I don't mind the MF.

Is it to fit a NEX body? Regardless of the camera, Metabones are good adapters - I used a Kindai with no problems but would happily go for a Metabones.

If it is for a NEX I can recommend the 3rd Generation TechArt adapter. I use it for my Contax G90 on my A7r and it works pretty well, including the AF.

hmm. the Metabones adapters ive got look nice but arent actually impressive to use, too much play in one case, a bit disappointing, they do look good and well-fabricated

the only Kindai one i use seems ok, works well

i cant speak to any Contax G adapters yet tho, i needs catch a lens first

Yes it's for my nex. I have a 30$ adapter that has a mini wheel to fucus, but it hurts my finger. This one looks good (Fotodiox): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GJ6B3TQw6yY

but its' 70$Cad.. vs 139$+taxCad Metabones. Dunno which one to get..

i think ima try buy the 90mm 2.8 from this shop .. it wants lookin at first, but its accessibly reasonably local

with mostlikely a Fotodiox adapter

on Panasonic Lumix DMC-G*s

Monday is my first real chance, hope its still there

by buying > m43 largewheel adapters

one from amazon, one from fleabay

one of which arrived already, not sure rightnow which maker .. asmartteam?

looks quite well-made tbh

You do not need a million dollar.

Why don't you do it by yourself? See the below...

Thanks for the link, but Japanexposures lenses are sooooo precise made, looking like art subjects, can't describ my fascination. Did You see the sushade of the 28 mm Biogon?
It's lens porn, but most sexiest one.... Embarassed

thanks .. i hope its a good copy, it looks fine, and i shouldnt have long to wait

more importantly i hope i get on with using the adapter to focus it ...

if its ok i totally want the 45mm f2, next, definitely

tho i'm not sure which of the other shorter ones would be most useful after that

PostPosted: Tue Feb 03, 2015 9:05 pm    Post subject: Reply with quote

35 mm is the most balanced for me on m4/3.
45mm is too long and 28 too short Smile

PostPosted: Tue Feb 03, 2015 9:57 pm    Post subject: Reply with quote

yeah, i've only just recently noticed the 35mm f2, myself

and my only 35mm lens is a pre-war Elmar 35mm 3.5 [1933]

which has nice coverage on m43

still tho, the 45mm has fairly legendary 'sharp', i really would want to try it out for myself imho

doesnt the 28 have mounting issues .. also, isnt there a 16mm or so?

35 + 90 is a good pairing, hmm

Yeah! There is the 1200$ upwarts Hologon 16 mm Rolling Eyes

But I don't think it will fit onto Your adapter / cam, and if so this non retrofocus lens design will give no good results on digital. On film it's one of the best ultrawides ever!

Well the 2/45mm it is a bit sharper than 2/35mm but not by much. At least on photos you take you will not see a huge difference.
As sharpness it is very close to the Olympus m.zuiko 1.8/45mm which also have lightning fast AF.
Well bokeh is not the same on Olympus but unless you find the Contax G 2/45 very cheap (like i did Smile fortunately) i guess it is not worth getting it.

For the 28mm - it depends from your adapter. I had cheap Chinese adapter which was not able to mount it and metabones for m4/3 which can (but cannot lock it)

on Nex the 2.8/28mm (and 2.8/21mm) mounts just fine with all adapters.
16mm i guess you can't use on digital -but you never know - i never tried that lens Wink

90mm 2.8 arrived this morning

looks in good condition, bit dusty mb, front element needs a proper clean, but i dont see much dust inside, nor scratches on the outside glass

rear mount has a fair bit of fresh verdigris on the chromed parts, needs a bit more cleaning still too .. seaside trips, i wonder, or just unuse

lens body is cosmetically very good [ very '60's Porsche' ] nicely proportioned for the Lumix G series

im in no rush to take it outside

apart from the 0°C weather, i dont quite trust any of my adapters yet
