Hello,

I would like to know what would be the easiest combination to obtain an 5 time magnification and this with a good picture quality ! Should also be easy to transport when shooying on the field !

I have a 40d, 100 mm macro from canon, 50 mm f1,8 from, and two m42 lenses one 28 mm 2,8 and one 50 mm 1,8. Of course the possibilities aren't limited to this list ! Simply the mp-e is way to expensive for me !

A reversible mounted 50mm lens can be provide incredible quality and magnify both.

Simply mounted on the body or on an other lens ?

Is the working distance more important than just a few mm ?

You could try a reverse ring, I don´t know the name of the Canon version.
I just today ordered one for Nikon.

If the lens is reversed, the wideangles give you more magnification.

Here´s the link to some wonderful photos taken with reversed 24 and 28 mm lenses:

How do you focus? I mean which lens or just swing back and forth until picture seems focused (that is what I do Embarassed )

Volkan,
I've tried two Rollei planar 50/1.8 reverse mounted with my 5D but the image circle was quite visible as a circle, I mean it couldn't form a full image circle with this method. The filter size was 49mm, I think there is somethings to be carefull about this method. Normal mounted was wide open @f.1.8 and focuseed to the min focusing distance, reverse mounted lens was adjusted for aperture and focus.

Can you give the insights of your lens combinations?
And focusing style when using 2 lenses.

And which city are you from? I'm assuming that this is a Turkish name and you didn't write the 'flaş' accidentaly Smile

Wonderful pictures, but I'm completely confused about which lens is reversed and how you mount them together. Are the filter rings facing each other, or the lens mounts? Which lens is nearest to the camera? And which lens do you use for aperture and focussing?

Any chance of a pic of the set-up and a note to explain? Thanks Smile

Hi Peter,

Mount the longer lens first to your camera, reverse mount/attach to
shorter focal length lens on the top. So simply the magnification is

long-local-length / short-focal-length

in his example it is 200 / 50 = 4 time magnification if the main
lens at the tele-end.

You have to find a female-to-female ring to attach the lenses
each other at their front, this is the most difficult thing. Very Happy Very Happy

ehemm....it is a male - male ring and they can be found on ebay quite easily,
here Click here to see on Ebay for instance in various sizes / combinations.
"macro coupler rings" they are usually called.
If you tried the female then I know why you find it so difficult... Wink Wink
